Texas Scorecard is at it again with the hits on this Sharp guy. Looks like someone leaked hiring survey results and apparently, DEI/ESG aside, he's not even well liked by anyone but the students.

This is a hard one to parse out, since I distrust every one of the players here. What I DO know is, until I see landslide change toward a university which reflects traditional Texas values: NOT ANOTHER DIME!

Not surprising. Since the average A&M student has more in common with a student in Austin than a former student from 10 years ago.

I reiterate what I wrote yesterday regarding the Big 4 and the large consultancies being way, way, way too focused on diversity, equity and inclusion before anyone ever coined DEI.

20+ years ago Deloitte made a hard press to get on and move up on the Forbes(?) Best Places to Work. In order to juice points, their womens initiative was preached 24/7 and I was seeing more and more females plucked ahead of guys for better assignments, more prestigious non-client responsibilities (including the womens initiative committee itself), european style maternity leave (not paternity). I left in 2004 and though I have not kept up as of late, I know all the firms were all in on BLM.

tl;dr not surprised to see this given how much influence the hiring companies have over the accounting program at TAMU and others.

This confused me as well, but perhaps for another reason. Does anyone remember the controversy when she was hired surrounding some society of supposedly conservative people? I can't remember what they called themselves but she was accused of being their puppet. How can you be a conservative puppet when you are making up training on how to hire the most DEI loving comrades?

I guess they'll all do anything to get ahead.

Not at all. He is for DEI and has said it numbers times. I don't understand how we ended up with him as president.

Just outsider looking in curiosity --- could Abbott? Maybe appeal to him? Especially with Trump's win he is probably going even more anti-Left than already is.

I personally don't like the guy's priorities. But:

They'd have to get rid of too many people. Nate Sharp isn't that special. Find me a dean that isn't a big goofy DEI disciple.

Plus the powers that be in the business school DEI conference debacle did the CYA move of asking the OGC and the OGC said it was A-OK. I think that leaves them in the clear despite their apparent motive.

Again, I don't like it, but only someone with power, stroke, and an axe to grind would take them all out. It's not going to be Abbott. I don't have a problem with Abbott, but I just don't think he's that kind of guy.

I wouldn't mind being wrong.

Welsh being the king of DEI was thoroughly documented on this board when he was being considered for President. The BOR knew exactly what they were getting. The slope of the university's greatness curve is negative.

This is a lame excuse that is used repeatedly to brush aside concerns over terrible government employees. The mentality has to change to one of action.

We were sold a liberal DEI ***** as president and we bought it because he had a military background. Apparently he's just like the woke jackasses that Trump is having to purge from the Pentagon right now. Bottom line is we need to get rid of Sharp. As long as he's at the helm, the liberal cancer will never get cut out of the university.

Blame Abbott, Patrick, other Texas legislators and their top 10% requirement rule they've forced on A&M. That has had more to do with the change in student population at A&M more than anything.

That is not shocking. Every student today is interchangeable. Even our football players move around these days sometimes 4-5 schools.

Life is different.

Odd… He was my favorite professor at A&M by a wide margin.

Extremely difficult class. Really cared about students. Even invited each class over for dinner with family.

The professors and staff clearly saw a different side. I don't doubt he has good teaching skills. But if faculty and staff aren't fans, then something else is going down behind the academic curtain.

False. Sharp has been at it for years. It's not just who is being admitted. It's what is being jammed down their throats once they get to campus.

We've seen the strong embrace of leftism emanating from the top of the university. Many other admin have come and gone, but John Sharp is the constant.

Professors are so removed from reality. I can't believe anyone cares about anything they have to say. It became evident after starting my first real job that most of them, aside from adjuncts, are clueless.

Hold on

We think professors and university staff are a bunch of liberal dei do nothings but are mad that the guy they scored lowest got hired as dean?

We're mad that the guy that scored highest among outside constituents and students got hired?

For the most part students are the same as we were - clueless. They care about the same things we did at that age and now you have to add cellphones into the mix. Most are apolitical and are trying to find their viewpoints by growing up. Just like you and I did.

Someone posted Nate Sharp was more popular with students because he engaged with them. I don't think students know a lot about him personally or are subscribing to DEI just because they liked him as a teacher/professor.

John Sharp is retiring at the end of the school year. A&M is in the process of hiring a Chancellor, VP of Student Affairs, and a Commandant. Those are important positions on campus. Change is coming and I hope it's the right kind of change.

Why do students have any say in who a dean is?

I was once complaining to a roommate about a sociology professor who would teach far left politics and push communist talking points in class. My roommate had a girl over who said she loved the guy. Did she like him because of his teaching style or how he treats students in class? No, she liked him because he'd buy her drinks at the bar. I'm 90% sure she wasn't 21.

So yeah, a student's opinion shouldn't matter.
