Sounds like Hegseth is clearly showing his hand with the renaming of the military bases.

Not going to lie, this is the one person I'm most interested to see how it works out. No way it's easy to just come into the largest organization in the world and be able to make change without faces a challenge with every step you take.

Yay more tax wasted money. I didn't like the changes but move the F on. When the next parties team comes in they will change it back also wasting money. Who has the biggest dick gets old.

JMHO, but he needs to smoke a few generals/admirals to set a tone. Pick out the weakest ones, or ones that have been the most enthusiastic about DEI, and send them into a well publicized early retirement.

The difference is the dems had no justification for the name change other than garbage DEI propoganda that the country is tired of. They never should have been changed in the first place. They need to undo as much of Biden as possible to ensure his legacy has as little lasting impact as possible.

Having your history erased is not some trivial matter. I support restoring the names and while we are at it, bring back the statues and such removed for wokeness. Our history is our history. Memory hole-ing is a hallmark of tyrants.

Given the pure magnitude of the defense budget, I worry about anyone being out of their depth in comprehending the scope of the DOD's allocation of funding and resources.

Is the DOD comptroller leadership established (lifelong Fed employees) or does Hegseth have to pick his team? Both scenarios are fraught with hurdles.

Agreed. It isn't the money for me but rather making it the focal point of your early moves as SecDef. Focus on making the country safer and our defense system more efficient.

Can someone tell me how name changes for bases make the US safer or the military more efficient?

If you're worried about the boomerang effect of changing administrations, and since R's control both houses, pass a statute reverting the names and requiring congressional approval for any future name changes. Naming rights rests with Congress. Yes, I realize it's possible the D's control both houses again at some point in the future and can rename, but that's much harder and less likely than the stroke of a pen by the executive branch.

The General walking beside him in that picture, is General DEI personified (meaning he was fully on board with DEI-not denigrating him per se), Charles Q. Brown Gen USAF, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Hmm signage, changes to local business names. It goes way further than just switching a name. It's like renaming a st. Businesses have to change addresses and all their advertising. It's not cheap.

I get that. But if you've ever taken over an organization, you set direction early by sending a clear message. Many times, there is nothing strategic about your first moves other than to communicate something.
