Sounds easy enough BUT with a ****ty govt system it can be difficult. I've absolutely known people weren't "from around here" but their paperwork passed the I9 system so I couldn't NOT hire them due to their assumed illegal status.

Hopefully Trump, this time, can streamline that system and make it actually work.
And as the owner of a new Puerto Rican birth certificate, fake documents are the reason I had to get a new birth certificate.

Puerto Ricans have been selling their documents for years. So some of the illegals might have legit documents that belong to somebody else.

This. Our economy operates on the back of a modern sharecropping system where we remain blissfully ignorant that a lot of menial labor jobs are done at essentially what Americans would consider slave wages. Get rid of the artificial barriers and then let the market dictate what people should actually get paid for that work.

Some of you have never been around one of the international bridges in the morning, and it shows. A good orange picker can clear $300 a day.

What you are likely looking at is some people buying into a rumor that all of them will be shipped off - legal or not. That sort of rumor has a strong influence on the weak of mind and weak knowledge of the law.

This.

Illegals can't work if Americans don't hire them.

ETA: If Trump actually goes after the Americans who hire illegals, then we'll know he's doing everything he can to get rid of the problem, roots and all. I truly hope he does that. It's about time the entire chain of people involved in this problem are held accountable.

Yes, penalize them both.
Just like for corporate fraud, you need to jail the C-suite. No fine, but jail time. When it touches one's skin, only then is one serious.

"Without"? Having worked in multiple industries that have relied heavily on immigrant labor for a couple of decades; cheap labor has always been "available", including during times of actual enforcement of immigration law. The same will be true going forward. This idea that suddenly all the labor will be gone is hyperbolic and completely unfounded in reality or historical perspective.

Also, there's just as many central and south Americans working those jobs as well you racist.

Constanly increasing the minimum wage only leads to inflation. If no one wants to work for what the employer is offering, the employer will have to raise the wage. Free market at work.

Was this house being framed in the Amish country? I drive by lots of new subdivisions and I haven't seen a white guy framing a house or putting on a roof in as long as I remember. My other thought on this is that Trump is smart enough to know that our economy will suffer as it cannot operate with US citizens alone. They just need to find a way to get these illegals work visas to be here. Thinking that US citizens are going to fill those jobs is not logical. It is not going to happen and even if we did put US citizens in those jobs it would be a disaster because they would not work nearly as hard and probably wouldn't show up half the time.

I'm sorry, I was wrong .

It's $7.25.

That's sick you think people should work below that.

I'm not sure that somebody could go to work full-time and even pay their expenses for having gone to work.

Gas, vehicle, insurance, clothes and lunch.

I think you really need to think about your position here.

I think the reality is that the government is already out of the market at $7.25.

I pay VERY CAPABLE part-time college kids that work for me $15 an hour.

If the job wasn't so flexible and easy they would find another that probably paid more.

He wants people to work for what the market dictates. Right now we pay Mexicans migrants significantly less to pick fruit and process meat of what we would pay a citizen to do it. Do you consider that slavery? End minimum wage, get rid of immigrants being able to work for less than what a citizen would, and let the market dictate how much it should actually be.

I also made the point that $7.25 an hour is unethical & unrealistic. If immigrants were willing to work for less than that amount of money anyway then it's a moot point and Americans aren't jumping in at $6.50.

I think the minimum wage would have to be $20 an hour for Americans to start under cutting it.

No one in this country is working a full-time job at the current hourly rate.

The problem has been that these workers pass initial checks and the employers are legally restricted from treating them differently than any other employee if they pass the employment verification. Even if fraud is suspected, if there is any hint that national origin or ethnicity was used as a reason to scrutinize employment eligibility, the EEOC under Biden would have come down hard. So many of these illegals got temporary right to work status as asylum claimants pending hearings scheduled many years out that it is a risk for any employer to end hint at suspicion, at least maybe until now.

Go to Google and search "crops rotting in fields." You'll find plenty of articles -- going back as far as you want to go -- warning that disaster is imminent unless more and more illegal immigration is allowed.

By now, it's a journalistic meme. Get ready for a lot more.

If no one is working for the minimum wage, why do we need one? The minimum wage isn't designed to feed a family of four. It's designed for entry level jobs.

literally this is an idiotic take.

if you have ever heard of "supply and demand" then you would realize if you DECREASE THE DEMAND the price will come down.

take away 13 million illegals who are living in American houses, the price of American houses will drop.
