So none of these "farm workers" had seasonal work visas? Besides, what are they paying these Hiden Biden illegals?

Maybe they should have thought of the possibility of this happening. somewhere around November 6th.
Farmers in CA don't seem to be any smarter than their elected officials. I guess that's why they call it La La Land.

We need to jail the employers who hire illegal aliens. A few well-publicized biz owners in cuffs will stop this nationwide, with the quickness.

Don't you know? One incident on one farm means the entire industry is in peril. Be afraid. Very, very afraid.

Sounds easy enough BUT with a ****ty govt system it can be difficult. I've absolutely known people weren't "from around here" but their paperwork passed the I9 system so I couldn't NOT hire them due to their assumed illegal status.

Hopefully Trump, this time, can streamline that system and make it actually work.

This. Lack of labor on farms is going to cause some slowdowns in the supply chains.

Most farm workers are H2A, so that means they are legal.

I'm not buying that mass deportations are going to disrupt agriculture.

How can libs forget their darling at the time, Ceasar Chavez, whom they named streets and buildings after, who championed no illegals working?

Again, we didn't have food/supply shortages prior to letting in Houston's population worth of illegals. We'll be ok

Even if true that "most" are legal and I will be incredibly charitable and grant you that 7 out 10 are

if 70% of farm Workers are legal and 30% Arent & that 30% if workforce stops showing up most operations will not function well ( if at all ) with that many people not showing up

Meat packing plants are another location that without illegal alien employees showing up every day they can't function smoothly
Meat processing plants is staffed strictly with guys with bogus id's and because we like cheaper meat and hate unions nobody is interested in shutting those places down. If also helps many of them are located in "red" America

Your hypothetical 30% can also be replaced in a few days. There's still plenty of illegals to choose from.

Not true.

In fiscal year 2024, 378,513 H-2A positions were certified, equal to 17% of the total agricultural workforce.

Way to pick the white out of the bird crap. Did you even read your own article?

Let me rephrase for the "gotcha police." A large number of "migrant" ag workers are H2A. According to the article, and my experience in it, it is a growing program that faced headwinds getting folks certified during the Biden administration. And it's vital for the produce that you see on the shelves.

These people aren't here illegally, nor will they be deported. I simply don't know anyone that would take the chance on paying cash, which you cannot deduct, for large scale labor operations.

Sheesh….

Yep, picking fruit during the day and stealing and killing at night. Obviously not all of them, but a high enough percentage to be a real problem for our citizens.

Add in civil forfeiture of all business and personal assets for hiring illegals.

I am perfectly fine with targeting employers violating the law.

But if we are going to do that, we need to remove government from the market to stop interfering with wages and worker availability.

End entitlements and the minimum wage. The fruit will get picked at whatever wage the market dictates.

Maybe we need a temporary visa program. They get their visa, work for some months and go back. If they don't they are blacklisted.

This.

Illegals can't work if Americans don't hire them.

ETA: If Trump actually goes after the Americans who hire illegals, then we'll know he's doing everything he can to get rid of the problem, roots and all. I truly hope he does that. It's about time the entire chain of people involved in this problem are held accountable.

Seasonal work program absolutely makes sense. There are plenty of Mexican nationals who don't really care to live here full time. I don't expect those are really the people we care about in this instance, but they are going to be caught in the middle until we can figure out an actual solution.
