Wish that Abbott would focus on solving real problems like Robin Hood instead of something that half of the State is not interested in.

Jared Patterson is one of the most hard right Republicans in the TX House. His voting record in the 88th placed him 15 of 150 on the most conservative chart.
He's also the top LT for the current regime and would've lost a large swathe of legislative power with Cook as the Speaker. He's arguably second or third most influential member in the House with Burrows as Speaker

This just proves Texas is a purple state.

So, preserving his career and status over his constituents and party's desired agenda. Got it.
He still sided with a majority of Democrats. I don't GAF about his "power". It's exactly why we get stuck with the likes of Cornyn for DECADES.

It's because most people do not pay attention like the people do on the site. We're in the 2-3% of constituents that pay attention intently to know what's going on. 90% of republicans check the R box and live their daily lives without worrying about anything political. This is all about personal greed for money and power - a tale as old as time. Politicians are grifting and getting away with it because they do just enough and the populous does't care enough to educate itself to vote people out. Why do you think Soros has been able to buy DA seats? Because it's cheap. The amount of money used to run for state rep is nothing in comparison.YouBet said:TAMU1990 said:14% win for Trump and double digit wins for Abbott, Cornyn, and other state wide officials is not a purple state.YouBet said:American Hardwood said:

Don't care. The folks dictating legislation and running to the Democrats to undermine their own party says differently.
If we were a red state, we wouldn't have to make deals with Democrats. Democrats clearly have a lot of leverage so....purple.

Friends you just can’t make this stuff up. The Texas House Democrat Caucus staffers just made things astronomically worse for Dustin Burrows by claiming that a Burrows win was a WIN for DEMOCRATS!!! At least those staffers are honest! https://t.co/iLDyYGVbZC

I strongly disagree with him on this. I put this on some other thread though within the past few weeks that when I emailed him about this vote he responded within around 20 minutes personally explaining his position (which, again, I think is indefensible). At least he responded though.Bird Poo said:

Politicians with an R beside their name that vote for a Speaker that actively encourages Democrats getting leadership positions that can kill conservative agendas is pretty close to the definition of having the name/title of Republican but not being one when it counts.
And ironically, Burrows was one of the drafters of a Republican rule designed to fix this flaw. Simply, that Republicans would stand by the decisions made by the Republican caucus.CrackerJackAg said:
How was this a surprise.
It's easier to win over the entire entirety of the Democrats and a few Republicans than to try and build a coalition with Republicans
This happens every single time. It's a flaw and how we choose the leader.
They are democrats. They just run as republicans because they know they would never win as democrats. In other states, they would just be honest and proudly run as democrats.annie88 said:No, I meant why is the Texas GOP so full of them? Why are there so many here in our state?

I think this is just politics at its most ugly. It's disappointing to me but I again do appreciate that he responded quickly and hope he changes his ways. Agree with others to the extent they are indicating he is going with what gives him political power/leverage first.
Why are there so many? I'll tell you why. PEOPLE DON'T PAY ATTENTION TO WHO THEY ARE VOTING FOR! That's why!!!! They're either listening to the Enemedia, or they are thinking they'll keep a "balance" of power by voting for a "Moderate". There are no Moderates, especially in the Demonrat Party, aka Commiecrats.annie88 said:No, I meant why is the Texas GOP so full of them? I understand your point, but I care a lot more if he's voting against conservative policies or taking positions against actual legislative conservative goals. Are there any of those someone can point to?
