Pretty interesting all the way around. Crazy that in just a few hours they can mash up audio overlaid on modeling with actual vids and pics.

Definitely some delays in confirming and disseminating relevant information to the pilot who still has a plane load of passengers on board.

To my knowledge no injuries.edit see Aggie95 below.

The woman at the tower was cool and not rattled at all. Very professional response over all.

For those just stumbling across this story

Quote:

The 757-300 suffered some kind of engine issue that forced its pilots to abort the take off. Passengers reported smoke "billowing" out of one of the plane's Pratt & Whitney turbofan engines, CNN reported.

Delta flight 2688 had been headed to Minneapolis.

"Delta's flight crew followed established procedures to suspend the takeoff of flight 2668 from Atlanta to Minneapolis-St. Paul after an indication of an engine issue. Nothing is more important than the safety of our people and customers, and we apologize to our customers for their experience. We are working to support our customers and get them to their destinations as safely and quickly as possible," the airline said in a statement following the aborted takeoff.

Does the pilot get into trouble for this?
I sure hope not.

Pretty sure that was supposed to be my plane tonight. I'm just now landing in Houston from Minneapolis and we got a new plane which caused a 90min delay.

The 757 is what TrumpForce1 has been operating too (though this one had pratt engines, not the RR his has). These are incredibly safe planes, the -300's for DL average out to over 21 years old, being newer than the -200's they still use (this one is from 2003). DL's maintenance operations are among the best in the world (many airline partners use their MRO services), and this based on the video/audio sure sounded like a very calm/competent reaction from all, to a routine event, being an engine failure before V1 or V2/rotate.

This has no resemblance in any way to the 737 disaster in Korea recently (also a very safe Boeing model).
