Democracy and the Political Spectrum. An old favorite.

Had to do a bit of searching in my old FB posting history for this one. Ever a favorite. This was brought on by a discussion I heard wherein a CNN reporter was aghast at a Trump supporter saying that we are not a Democracy. Well...hate to tell y'all this, but we are not, nor have ever been, a Democracy. Democracy was recognized as anathema by the Founders. It's a long standing pet peeve of mine when our government representatives, even so-called Republicans, call us a Democracy.

One more pet peeve of mine is the whole "left-right" model when people discuss the political spectrum. (I'll admit I've used it in conversation myself, and I always cringe when I do.) Far-right does not equal Nazis and far-left does not equal Socialists/Communists. This is a complete fallacy.

This is an exceptional little video. 10 minutes. Do yourself a favor and check this one out.

Yeah, that is a good review. Too bad more people don't watch it.

It would be hilarious, if not so sad, that whenever you mention to people the word "Democracy" is not in The Declaration of Independence or The Constitution, it really freaks many of them out. Chalk it up to the failure of our edumacational system to teach history any more, much less civic duty, over the last few decades.

I believe all this was purposeful to produce the ignorance of American History so rife in our society today.

Elections are when people find out what politicians stand for, and politicians find out what people will fall for.
