I thought goats could eat anything? At least that is what I learned from my kids book Gregory the Goat, the Terrible Eater. Gregory the goat's parents were worried that he wouldn't eat trash. I don't want to ruin it for you.

I doubt most pursue majors or careers in agriculture. I was in 4-H myself, but I went to A&M to study engineering.

I mean... in what world is the FFA president NOT a future Aggie?
Yep. C.J. "Red" Davidson leadership scholarship. Wasn't a ton, but sure helped my way through agronomy…..

Never thought of poisoning a kid's animal, a kid or two maybe needed a good wormin'…..

When I was in high school in the late 90s, one of my friend's rabbits were killed the week before the county fair.

A girl who was running for Fair Queen's pig was shot in the weeks before the competition. Like, in a drive-by.

My best friend still lives in our hometown and her husband won't let their kids show because of how ruthless the families are.

She sounds like a psychopath She feels no empathy, is a great manipulator, will destroy other peoples lives to get what she wants and has been this way all of her life.

And are extremely dangerous.

Pretty good advice for all ages of life to focus on what we can control. Especially as we get older and realize how much we cannot control.

To make that F16 related, that's a big part of why I've generally been more interested and active in local politics. Not that I can control anything, but efforts can go a little further and results are more immediate.

Yeah but she's hot. That's all some guys think about. She'll get through this just fine. Maybe should avoid the next few HS reunions.

I'm not really that surprised. I raised steers in 4H. My senior year, I had a good one. The county agent came by one day while I was working with him, and asked me how I thought he'd do. I showed the agent the 3-4 that I thought I might have trouble with and he said "that looks about right". The day of the show comes, and I walk up to my calf with his belly twice the size it normally is. I spent 10 hours working him everywhere I could in that barn and out of it to get him somewhat presentable. To this day I'm convinced someone poured sprite into his feed….

From what anecdotal stories I've heard about families that do animal shows, especially at the "professional" level… this isn't surprising. Sadly.

We will be spending the night in the barn at county this year with my daughter's lambs. There has been some drama in the county that came to a head this year and a few families feel it's best to be there 24/7 to make sure cooler heads prevail. We have cameras in our private barn to make sure there is something to document. There is way too much money tied up in these animals to chance something happening. The kind of money that is thrown around to try to win a show is ridiculous. I watched an online sale for a show wether (castrated lamb) for 75k. They consistently go for 5-10k a piece.

During my wife's show career in the steer barn and even now for my nephew there is a family member that stays over night in the bar to keep "accidents" from happening.

These animals are drug tested after wining. also they have to weigh with in a stated weight (5# for sheep/ goats 10# for pigs , cattle is a percentage) it is very easy for someone to inject, feed, or water an animal to get an animal weighted or tested out.

County shows are the worst for this kind of behavior it is commonly refers as "Hate Your Neighbor Week" because everyone wants to be king of their home town.

When I was in high school, our shows were all one day. Bring in your show animals first thing in the morning. Judging would start in the morning and finish up by late afternoon. Then the sale that night.

One year, there was a girl from the county seat who's steer won its class in Houston but didn't make grand champion. Instead of selling it in Houston, she kept it for the county show expecting it to be the grand champion there. Instead, my younger brother's steer won grand champion.

That created some hard feelings for a week or two. When my dad was over at the county seat a couple of days later, people there had no qualms about running down my younger brother's steer in front of him.

I think my steer got 4th that year.

2% of the population is some degree of clinically psychopathic. They may not be sociopaths or extreme but they can be self absorbed, narcissistic, and manipulative and lack empathy to an abnormal degree. Interestingly it is not unusual for ladder climbers to possess these traits to a significant degree but typically not in the extreme

When I lived in Sydney, I met an Aggie girl who had been involved in meat judging and she had a few crazy stories about meat judging.

I think there is definitely a lot of potential for some shows about the drama surrounding high school Ag.

And not all bad stuff either. I had two HS friends who were on the Ag Radio team (or something like that). All the girl wanted was for the guy to take an interest in her 36DDs.

Here is pig royalty from discovery plus. Follows 2 families and their feuds. Not really any families of merit in the hog barns or anywhere close to royalty. But gives you a taste of the drama. 9 out of 10 times the adults are the problems.

It does have a cameo from a coupe Aggies from the industry.

All the stories here are why livestock showing ended with me and won't allow my kids to do it. It was fun and reasonable cost in the late 90s in my area. Now the same psyco stuff you all have experienced is going on up here too. Not worth it.

My boys get as much out of craftsmen, garden, and shooting sports projects as I did out of livestock. Mix in our huntimg dog for live showing and additional responsibility.

I understand your rationale but really hate reading this. There are bad actors in every aspect of life. Both my kids raised livestock. It was a fun thing to do as a family. We didn't take it to the highest levels but did enough to have it be a net positive. Financially it was a break even at best when all aspects were considered.

We are all appalled at the news of the goat incident. I have been a veterinarian for a major show for nearly 2 decades. I've seen some unsavory situations. Those are the exception. The overwhelming majority of the experiences are awesome. I love seeing the impact livestock exhibitions have on our young people. Keeps me encouraged for our future.

I wouldn't let this psychopath and her misdeed keep me from supporting my kid's interests in livestock exhibition.
