~33yrs. I thought the mall had installed bollards in front of all their entrances after that. Most big businesses in the area did.

That Luby's is a chinese buffet now. It's eerie for me to eat in there.

I wasn't around for Charles Whitman, so this was really my first exposure to a mass shooting. Shocked the nation. Now dipsheets seem to do it every few months.

I like to eat but there is no way in hell I'd feel comfortable enough to let my guard down knowing what tragedy happened there. Pure evil happened that day.

I dated a girl at A&M whose mom was in Lubys that day. Very nice family, it obviously had a horrible impact on her mother she never recovered from.

A good friend's dad was killed that day, the father of a girl I dated was shot that day, a couple of other people I knew were killed that day, one an Aggie whose daughter is a professor at A&M currently (or was. I lost contact). It had a tremendous impact on many people's lives.

The Gratia family went to our church. Their daughter Susanna survived the shooting, became a state legislator, and championed our concealed carry laws. She brought some good out of this tragedy.

For some reason I thought the building had been demolished.

Thirty three years means it happened when I was in grad school. That also put it around the same period when the Yogurt Shop Murders happened in Austin. That was also pure evil. I had a personal connection with that one because the manager of the yogurt shop was a high school friend. She was one of the last people to see those girls alive. It really wrecked her psychologically.

For a time it seemed like the postal service had cornered the market on workplace violence.

My brother and a high school classmate were hiding behind one of the statues the day Whitman went off. He could hear the report and projectiles whizzing by. Wild times with the protests ramping up too.

1991 George Hennard, at the time was the worst mass shooting in America....I believe.
