Not the same. Pretty much the second bill minus the debt ceiling.
If they didn't need to raise the debt ceiling then why did they make a big fuss over it? Congress is an absolute cluster-joke.

THERE CURRENTLY IS NO DEBT CEILING!!!!!

The Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 is an act of the 118th United States Congress that SUSPENDED the debt limit until January 2025

Look it up

https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/PLAW-118publ5/pdf/PLAW-118publ5.pdf

I asked about that earlier. Does that sunset itself or something?

It reverts back to the limit it was before they hit it in 2023 and had to suspend it to continue doing business sending billions overseas, forgiving student loans and putting up wets in five star hotels. And on top of it reverting back to 2023 levels, the spending Biden did is included so the minute it sunsets they are up against the so called ceiling again.
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because hard men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

I recommend listening to Ted Cruz's podcast today. It is significantly more nuanced than that.

Gingrich is on with Levin, and agrees with you in tenor, and you can kind of tell he is right. The stopping the absurd omnibus that normally would have happened is itself a big victory, and you can't expect much more with an almost non-existent power leverage in Johnson's hands. That Elon, Trump, and the new media pushback got the word out and stopped the bloated thing and forced at least this more slender CR, is a passably tolerable achievement when you have only half of the Hill and only barely so.

Regarding the Democrats and their logic...

Why did they vote no on the more bloated version of the bill then turn around and vote yes on a slightly thinned down version?

So their direction of vote was more determined by how they thought it would go at any given moment, and be seen in the public eye, rather than what is in them? Sounds plausible.

There is a debt ceiling that is part of this negotiation
The debt ceiling issue is to MOVE the date of it coming back by 2 years.

So, instead of Jan 2025 it comes back Jan 2027.

So....summing up.

Currently no debt ceiling.

Debt ceiling is part of this negotiation.

You mean Bill "C" may also still set it back two years, as needed (if not gotten rid of)?

Surprise, surprise! lol Carrying CR's down to final hours time after time defines incompetence and irresponsibility . Let's see if the new Congress can develop and pass sensible budgets without pork amendments. If they don't, vote them our of office. But that won't happen.

And replaced with WHO?
There are some Rs that simply refuse to vote for ANY CR because it's aCR. He HAS to get to 218. So what's he going to do? If Rs are guaranteed No boys for no other rain than it's a CR, without some Democrats nothing will pass.

You can dislike Johnson all you want, you won't elect anyone better.

I don't know what's in the latest bill for sure.

But that was the debate with the first 2 bills...

Who is "they" you are referring to?

If you want more of the status quo then Johnson is your guy and we should all just give up on trying for improvements in D.C. There were several options the last go around and will be several more options the next go around.

If you want improvements then you won't settle for the **** platter that they are serving you constantly but will keep sending it back until you get something you like. You might go hungry for the good stuff for a while but that is the only way to get something you like. And no I'm not referring to 100% or nothing but people are sick of settling when our "leaders" are the only ones that come out ahead.

Pretty sure the more bloated version was never voted on
The slim bill on the first pass had debt ceiling relief 38 Rs and all the Ds votes against it
Still unclear about procedurally if it could have passed with a simple majority on a subsequent votes
Slim bill without debt ceiling relief extension passed a second time 90%+ of the house voting for it with 31 Rs voting against it

You may be right. This may be gaslighting for their own voters benefit for a bid for the House in 2026 or 2028.

The assumption seems to be the bill was great for Bidenites because they voted for it -- -but maybe they concluded it was time to just change tactics. Maybe they think (with reason) that the GOP-E is so inept that they can let them have their way for now as can't really block it long; and that they will blow the mid-terms with their right voters by slowing Trump and they need only wait.

Finally found some details on the Bill:

https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-passes-last-minute-funding-bill-to-avert-shutdown
Quote:

Included in the spending bill is $10 billion in funding for disaster relief and billions more in farm aid. A debt limit increase, which was a demand of President-elect Donald Trump, was not included in the package, POLITICO reported. The Hill reported that instead of a debt ceiling increase, Republicans agreed to increase the borrowing limit by $1.5 trillion in exchange for a $2.5 trillion spending cut, which will be done through a reconciliation package in the next Congress when Republicans have control of both chambers and the White House.

"The Speaker did a good job here, given the circumstances," Musk wrote on X. "It went from a bill that weighed pounds to a bill that weighed ounces. Ball should now be in the Dem court."

Maybe not the best but definitely not the worst. Some Republicans need to realize that a little flexibility on some sacred principles will do less damage than having to compromise more to get Democrat votes.
Logos Stick

So they increased the spending limit now for a promise of a cut in the future.
