" The NYPD's highest-paid employee who shoveled in more than $400,000 last year filed for retirement this week amid an internal affairs probe into her astronomical overtime, The Post has learned.
Lt. Quathisha Epps will retire just shy of 20 years with the department, sources said".
" Leaving money on the table is seemingly uncharacteristic for Epps, who raised eyebrows by pulling in roughly $204,000 in overtime last year for her administrative job in NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey's office, payroll records show."

" Sources told The Post that Epps' whopping overtime was capped after The Post's exclusive report last month on her pay. She was also told she'd be put back on patrol an apparently unappetizing prospect after her cushy desk job, according to the sources."

LOL. She must have some impressive administrative skills to be pulling down $204,000 a year in overtime!

I presume she falsified those hours? If not, the fault is with her management for allowing that much overtime. If so, she should be in jail for fraud, and she won't need the extravagant pension.

No kidding. I have been waiting on a Texas unclaimed fund claim that I submitted in July. I called them last week and they said they received the paperwork but have not assigned anyone yet to review it.

Something tells me she was probably allowed to approve her own OT. Otherwise her super deserves sone jail time too.

The crazy thing here is that her hourly, base pay has to be about $200k/yr. She got paid over $400k with $200k of that in OT.

Now that she's retiring, she should try her hand on Broadway. DEI midgets with urban first names have really made some inroads of late

Where are the auditors? She must have had a sup that had to sign off on the OT.

The entire NYCPD should be riled about that OT, especially doing just admin work.

Public Safety has much different retirement rules than rank and file govt employees.

This happens in a lot of government/public service jobs. It's their incentive. When you retire at the average pay of your last X years of service into perpetuity , you're incentivized to find more pay in those last X years. That's why you see so much bull**** overtime right before someone retires. It's a poor incentive structure for taxpayers.

She was working 67.75 hours a week for 52 weeks or 68.86 hours a week for 50 weeks with 2 weeks PTO at base. It's alot of hours, but doesn't seem super unreasonable. The $94.23/hr base pay seems high, but if she's basically an executive assistant for the chief, it could be possible.

Just a rough calculation here.

Total income: $400k
Overtime: $204k
Base: $196k

Base pay: $94.23/hr
40 hrs x 52 weeks = 2080 hours
2080 x 94.23 = 195,998.40

Overtime pay: $141.35/hr
204k / 141.35 = 1443.23 hours
1443.23 hr / 52 weeks = 27.75 hrs/week

Maddening! A Lt never needs overtime like that ever. Give OT to the street officers and detectives. Poor leadership.

It's most likely double time over 60 hours.

And, they could have done special holiday situations where the rate was even higher.

When I used to work for Dell in the 1990s, they would pay the tech support people triple time to work on Christmas Day.

EDIT: See Bluto already addressed this.

But No way she worked those hours for a year. No one can work that many hours and be effective at there job.

How the heck would a foreclosure take 4 years? Esp.with the crazy real estate market in 2020. I'd think the banks would have pushed that thru ASAP to resell and recover their lost $$

I don't think OT factors into retirement pay. At least it did not when I worked for the state of Texas. It was your ave. base pay for the last 3 years. That's when folks were doing everything they could to get promoted and pay increases before they retired.

It depends on how the pension plan is set up. Different plans have different rules and pay out at different percentages.
