Looks like the slim majority and his CR antics might cost him? I for one will be happy with out of that role. He's out of his depth.

ETA: this matters towards in determining the number needed for a majority

The Dems will vote for him and pull him across like they did back in March. He's been doing their bidding for the last year.

Yeah, he has already struck a deal with Hakeem, it would appear.

This.

He's pretty much got more support from the Democrats than Republicans which speaks volumes about how much the GOP and the term "Republican" has been hijacked.

It will be interesting theater this year to watch Trump call out holdout R's who are keeping his legislation from getting out of the House. It could be RINOs, or it could be the extreme right who tries to hold a bill hostage for not getting 100% of what they want.

During Biden's term, either one of those segments could act like children. With a new sheriff in town, I don't think either one of them will get away with hostage-taking.

I want the most conservative legislation we can get passed, but the key word is passed. I'll take 80% of what I want in a bill and then come back for the other 20% in round two instead of getting nothing over a fight for 100% purity.

We've been getting 20% of what we want and hoping we'll get the next 80% later.

All while the 20% we've been getting comes with >20% baggage that Democrats want. A net loss.

There's not many if any that want 100% purity or nothing like your assertion implies.

Maybe, but he may be a great Congressman for his district if he reverted back to only that role. But he's a terrible SOTH when it comes to leading the majority party.

The pressure does not lie directly in his district but also in every district that either enables him to get the SOTH or to continue being the SOTH.

If you have principles, there have to be some deal breakers, right?

Throwing in Congressional immunity and pay raises into an "emergency" bill seems like it should qualify.

If we keep tolerating shutdown brinkmanship by self-serving political leeches, we're going to keep getting more of it.

I think the game changes with the R's having all three of House, Senate, and WH. It will soon be time to get stuff done and implement a conservative agenda. Our margins are still very slim in the House and Senate, so we will still have to work together as one party to resolve differences and move forward. Anybody -- RINO or anti RINO -- who plays ball so extreme as to take hostages will get called out by Trump. He ain't got time for it, and neither do we frankly.

There are MANY on here (and in the House) that subscribe to the ALL or NONE mindset unfortunately.

And then they get whiny and pissy that they got NONE.

Vote on vacating speaker. Dems saved Johnson by voting to table it.

I know arithmetic is hard for some, but the Dems have 213 in the House. Had the Dems been told to nuke him, he would have been nuked.

Johnson acts like a good guy, but he fails the test every time it's in front of him. Replace that wimp. Clearly they have leverage on him (feels like our chief justice) and he just rolled over.
