UST IN: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is considering resigning, according to CTV News.

Sources have reportedly told the outlet that Trudeau is "considering prorogation or resignation" and may address Parliament today.

"Sources tell CTV News that the prime minister has conveyed to cabinet that he is considering prorogation or resignation, and he's potentially planning to address Parliament this afternoon," the outlet reported.

The report comes after Canada's finance minister Chrystia Freeland suddenly announced that she was quitting.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is also calling out Trudeau, saying Canada has "gotten out of control" under his leadership.

Snap election. He can call one now.

The Liberal Party just used a legal maneuver to ban pretty much all firearms from Canadians and they will take the confiscated weapons and donate them to Ukraine. I wish I was kidding. They're going to take people's .22 rifles and give them to the Ukrainian army.

There are less than 300 gun homicides in Canada every year and the vast majority are by gangs using stolen handguns.

The pushback against this latest measure has been intense, combined with all of the economic issues.

Canada is weird and I don't pretend to understand all of their quirks and government, but today was the day they released their financial plan for the fiscal year or something like that. The Finance Minister also submitted her resignation today. Trudeau apparently wanted to spend like a drunken sailor on gimmick programs and she, surprisingly, was attempting to push for fiscal sanity.

For the TLDR crowd:

Finance minister wanted to keep as much cash on hand as possible as leverage vs. Trump's tariff threats.

Trudeau and several secondary parties that are part of his coalition (Green and NDP) wanted more people to get the promised $250 check amounting to several billion dollars ($4-6 billion).

This was basically a little gold star sticker that Trudeau et al thought would earn them a few percentage points at the polls and maybe be a selling point in the next elections.

The finance minister pushed back hard, Trudeau said maybe you should do something else in the Cabinet and she said I'm not taking your demotion thank you very much. Lots of rumors have been swirling for weeks (months) about large portions of the party telling Trudeau he needs to not stand for the next election.

That's where we are.
