It's not a procedure you'd expect a 28-year-old to be planning. But for Lydia Echols from Texas, having her fallopian tubes removed is the price she's willing to pay to ensure her reproductive rights.

Newsweek spoke to five women who have either undergone sterilization procedures or plan to in the wake of President-elect Donald Trump's victory on November 5. They all expressed fear their reproductive choices will be taken from them under Trump's administration.

"If I am to be denied any rights in the next four (or more) years, I will not give them up without a fight," Echols said.

Last week, a 39-year-old from Washington state, who did not want to be named, underwent a bilateral salpingectomy, in which her fallopian tubes were removed.

"I am not happy that I felt forced into a surgery I did not want to alter my body, I feel like the election tied my hands and forced me to be sterilizedthat is horrible," she told Newsweek.

The issue of abortion and reproductive rights was a major one in this year's election. Trump, who took credit for the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, removing the constitutional right to an abortion in the country, has repeatedly said that his position is to let the states decide their own abortion laws.

If she's getting her tubes tied to insure her reproductive rights I think she's just saying she can't stop hoaring around.

Must remove ability to reproduce to preserve my reproduction rights.

Eliminating your ability to reproduce ensures your reproductive rights?

Makes sense.

Probably a win for society this woman does not reproduce.

LOL, upset about altering HER body, but no problem altering the babies body by ripping it to pieces.

At 39 she isn't far from having mother nature remove her reproductive rights.

Reproductive rights = your choice who to sleep with and the consequences that come with it.

Killing babies =/= reproductive rights

Depends. If she was on the Pill for a number of years, she might not go into menopause until late 40s early 50s. I was 52 when I was done with menopause, for instance.

First, It is something, I would expect a 28-year-old promiscuous female to plan. It is a worthwhile option to consider.

Second, Tying the fallopian tubes is currently the least evasive procedure. Tying the tubes can be reversed and therefore is a method of birth control. Removing the fallopian tubes to prevent pregnancy, is a form of sterilization preformed by authoritarian governments, e.g. NAZIs.

Third, This does not ensure her reproductive right, it just takes her out of the fertility gene pool. (win/win)

I know every single male who isn't in a hurry to make a baby has no problem knowing he doesn't need to worry about oopsing into becoming a father.

This sounds like one of those "Don't tempt me with a good time" kind of thing.

Doing it hastily because Trump was elected is not reasonable.

Claiming it is "reproductive rights" is stupid.

That's nothing more than a bunch of narcissistic, virtue signaling, lack of responsibility.

My guess would be either too ugly (not necessarily physical) and undesirable to enter into and maintain a relationship, or

ignorant and desiring to merely sleep around without any consequences or foresight into what life will be like in your 40's and beyond.

Basically, a way of saying it's Trump's fault that their lives are miserable.

Amazing the mind judo libs have been practicing about abortion rights going back to the states. They act like if their life is in danger they won't be able to get an abortion.

First, that's bogus. Maybe their doc won't do it but they can always find one who will.

Second pregnancies that pose a risk to the mom and leave her with the choice of terminating the baby or dying herself are rare. To go completely ape over the very small chance this might happen and combine it with a bogus potential refusal of medical care if it does, smacks of just crying to make a political point.
Trump will fix it.

The ones tying their tubes because of Trump are not ones that any rational male would want anything to do with anyway. No loss.
