G8ven the majority of the "military" drones being used in large numbers are just off the shelf airframes/hardware with small modifications, I'm extremely skeptical about their ability to rule out hobbyist hardware.

I dont doubt they're being used in a nefarious manner, but let's be realistic.

Could be unsettling though. Its very unlikely Russian --they have better means and more sophisticated ones and already know much of that kind of thing. If it is nefarious, seems Islamist.

Why are we not shooting them down? Serious question. What are the ROE?

Yes. I was watching a video of a drone being promoted as a defense asset the other day, I was able to find all the componentry on it outside of the Flight controller for under 150$. A FC capable of doing what it was billed to be doing is a sub 50$ component. So all in the airframe should cost approx 200-250$ to assemble at retail prices. They wanted close to 3000$ per airframe.

I wish I had the academic credentials to break in to the industry, they're making an absolute killing on a lot of this stuff..

Most businesses sell at what 3-4x cost? Not surprised that government contractors sell at 10-12x.

Just because they are "unidentified" doesn't necessarily equal nefarious intent.

They could be "ours" (aka NATO)

I find it interesting that DJI, a Chinese company, has robust restrictions preventing over the counter drones from operating in these airspace's without modification or bootleg software.

However, Autel is a government approved alternative to DJI, if it were banned. Autel openly markets to pilots that it has no restriction on its software to keep you from flying in government restricted airspace.

Shouldn't they be able to track the drones back to their origination and also to where they go after visiting the bases? We have satellites and cameras and radar. Should not be very hard.

Could our bases even shoot down some of them, without asking UK permission? Seems might be some red tape there.

Obvious attacking threats excluded. Mean for something like this.

I would definitely arrange with the Brits to fly a larger more sophisticated long endurance drone to pinpoint and track any observed drone to its recovery point and help identify who is operating it.

Most of that 10-12X increase is due the exacting government "specifications".

Good question. Also. China, Iran and N. Korea should be on the list.

My money would be on Iranians or Terrorist financed by the Iranians.

We've been discussing these for a long time in the UAP thread on the Entertainment board. Nobody knows what they are or who is responsible for them. They are, in the literal sense of the words, Unidentified Aerial Phenomena. There have been several congressional hearings about these and similar incursions over and around military aircraft/bases. DoD admits they're real and they have no explanation for them.

Biden is still "President." It's probably the Chinese. They know he won't do anything.

Of course, they could just ask and he would give them anything they want.
