I think he's qualified. Experience and management. I'm sure the same pigs will squeal about him being a kook but he actually does have the credentials required to run the agency.

Dr Oz is interesting.

He was one of the preeminent medical professionals in the world until he decided to go all in on the entertainment industry and his weird daytime show.

Hopefully, he's getting back to his roots.

**Dr. Mehmet Oz - Medical Career Before Entertainment**
Dr. Mehmet Oz, a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon and professor, began his medical career with an impressive educational background, earning his undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 1982 and both an MD and MBA from the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. He trained in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, where he later became a professor of surgery at Columbia University. Dr. Oz specialized in minimally invasive cardiac surgery, pioneering innovative techniques and authoring over 400 medical publications, including several books on health and wellness. He was known for his work in developing heart assist devices and achieving breakthroughs in transplantation medicine. His medical contributions earned him numerous accolades, including being named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in 2008.

**Dr. Oz - Transition to Entertainment**
Dr. Oz transitioned to the entertainment world through his frequent guest appearances on *The Oprah Winfrey Show*, where his approachable demeanor and clear explanations of complex medical issues gained him widespread popularity. This exposure led to the launch of his own program, *The Dr. Oz Show*, in 2009, which combined health advice with celebrity interviews and lifestyle segments. While the show attracted a large following and several Emmy Awards, it also sparked controversy due to its promotion of certain alternative remedies and health claims. Over time, Dr. Oz expanded his public influence through books, podcasts, and entrepreneurial ventures, positioning himself as a household name in health and wellness. However, his transition from clinical medicine to media drew criticism from some medical professionals, raising questions about the balance between entertainment and evidence-based health advice.

Another good, loyalist pick.

All these picks show Trump has figured out a lot of the backstabbing ways of DC at this point. You'd think a real estate developer/tycoon of all folks would have had that at the top of his list of concerns the first time, but it's just such a 'whole other level' I think he had to see it to believe it (as did, for instance, Gen Flynn). The CIA/DNI IG's resigning before he is sworn in, is yet another good sign, imho that the swamp is 'resigned' to Trump's team ripping up the town.

He is building a cast, not a government. Objectively, this will be an entertaining season at the cost of, you know, America. Wonder which position Hulk Hogan is going to fill. Privatizing Medicare and ending VA healthcare is straight out of Project 2025. I feel terrible for what is about to come to our seniors and military veterans.

LOL, quoted for posterity. Seriously, wow. How have you divined the GOP will privatize Medicare and end VA healthcare out of any of the news, including the stubborn insistence that the filibuster now not be ended, despite Schumer's many prevarications? Project 2025 bogeyman again, really? That didn't really help team war-CCP a couple weeks ago.

If the US Department of Education…suddenly didn't exist in 2026, who would be harmed, and how? What threat to the health of Americans do you perceive Dr. Oz to pose, and how do you see this threat as likely to be implemented? Thank you.

Oz was picked in the primary because of Trump. He lost to Fetterman because he was a terrible candidate (and a liberal). McCormick won against a much stronger candidate (although also with the election year bump) and showed this year that he would have done much better.

FYI - VA healthcare was already abysmal and our veterans always deserved better. I doubt anything would be worse than the way they've been treated over the last several decades.

Also, our "government" is a bloated, corrupt, snake infested mess, I'll happily take a cast over the s*** show America has had to endure.

Roughly 13% of K-12 schools budgets come from Federal money. Eliminating that income means they will either have to raise state taxes or cut programs. Additionally the DoE establishes protocols for preventing discrimination and ensuring equal access to education, particularly for disabled children. So when you ask, "who would be harmed?" The answer is poor and disabled kids.

There's no evidence the entire Dept of Education is needed to support passing that funding out, and if anything I am sure a transition period will be established for districts reliant on these funds. Hopefully, that transition includes a period of voucher transition support, so parents/kids get improved educational choices, likely at a net lower cost to taxpayers, with much greater local/family control over how those funds are spent. Discrimination is not something I am aware of in school districts in 2024, and frankly I think most people do not value federal oversight making sure that never happens, sounds more like a 'fear' point.

Disabled kids is a whole topic in education that the feds have blown it on by requiring them to be separated out, then integrated in, then frankly not treated well in the whole process especially in poorer districts. Getting the feds out, again, won't hurt this class of children, but rather encourage local officials to manage them with care and not an overbearing 'standards' industry of government far removed towering over them.

My disabled daughter wasn't helped by public schools. We had to put her in private school and private speech therapy (partially subsidized by med insurance).

She went to community college first, and the disability advisor was shocked at how well she did on her placements tests. He said we did a good thing putting her in private. She graduated with honors in statistics and a master's in data analysis.

Tax breaks for parents of disabled kids would be a wonderful thing!

Aren't their already laws on the books, passed by congress and signed by the president, that prevent discrimination in the public system (as in any publicly funded system, schools, gov. services, taxes, whatever)?

Why do we need a completely separate department to write those 'guidelines' ?

Your daughter wasn't helped in public schools during a time of Texas Republicans running the schools? Is this the federal government's fault or a state issue?

Also, there are poor schools losing money to the Robin hood act because they are in an "industrial" area that has a butt load of homes, but poor homes, and the district has to pay out this fund which also hurts their funding for their disabled students which they have a disproportionate amount due to the poor and industry they live in.

It seems to me the Republicans in the last 25 years have hurt the education system in Texas, 12 of those years had a republican president during that time.

I've never said the current system is perfect but what Trump is doing is the same "non solution" he campaigned on with Obamacare. He pointed out the problems and inefficientcies as reason to repeal it but he never actually said what the fix is. He has no plan to fix or replace what the DoE currently provides and that's a massive issue for anyone in public schools (K thru College).

He can't give a solution. He can pick leaders and push to get 218+60 legislators to draft and agree to vote on an improved piece of legislation and work to execute on that as best as possible.

The basic lack of civics is amazing in our society.

Uhhh yes he can. You can be snide all you want but if he's going to campaign on eliminating an entire department (something that can only be done thru congressional support) it is encumbent on him to provide the replacement.
