LOL, quoted for posterity. Seriously, wow. How have you divined the GOP will privatize Medicare and end VA healthcare out of any of the news, including the stubborn insistence that the filibuster now not be ended, despite Schumer's many prevarications? Project 2025 bogeyman again, really? That didn't really help team war-CCP a couple weeks ago.Birdwatcher said:
He is building a cast, not a government. Objectively, this will be an entertaining season at the cost of, you know, America. Wonder which position Hulk Hogan is going to fill. Privatizing Medicare and ending VA healthcare is straight out of Project 2025. I feel terrible for what is about to come to our seniors and military veterans.

FYI - VA healthcare was already abysmal and our veterans always deserved better. I doubt anything would be worse than the way they've been treated over the last several decades.Birdwatcher said:

If the US Department of Education…suddenly didn't exist in 2026, who would be harmed, and how? What threat to the health of Americans do you perceive Dr. Oz to pose, and how do you see this threat as likely to be implemented? Thank you.
There's no evidence the entire Dept of Education is needed to support passing that funding out, and if anything I am sure a transition period will be established for districts reliant on these funds. Hopefully, that transition includes a period of voucher transition support, so parents/kids get improved educational choices, likely at a net lower cost to taxpayers, with much greater local/family control over how those funds are spent. Discrimination is not something I am aware of in school districts in 2024, and frankly I think most people do not value federal oversight making sure that never happens, sounds more like a 'fear' point.Hullabaloonatic said:nortex97 said:LOL, quoted for posterity. Roughly 13% of K-12 schools budgets come from Federal money. Eliminating that income means they will either have to raise state taxes or cut programs. Additionally the DoE establishes protocols for preventing discrimination and ensuring equal access to education, particularly for disabled children. So when you ask, "who would be harmed?" The answer is poor and disabled kids.
Your daughter wasn't helped in public schools during a time of Texas Republicans running the schools? Is this the federal government's fault or a state issue?SVaggie84 said:
My disabled daughter wasn't helped by public schools. We had to put her in private school and private speech therapy (partially subsidized by med insurance).
She went to community college first, and the disability advisor was shocked at how well she did on her placements tests. He said we did a good thing putting her in private. She graduated with honors in statistics and a master's in data analysis.
Tax breaks for parents of disabled kids would be a wonderful thing!

I've never said the current system is perfect but what Trump is doing is the same "non solution" he campaigned on with Obamacare. He pointed out the problems and inefficientcies as reason to repeal it but he never actually said what the fix is. He has no plan to fix or replace what the DoE currently provides and that's a massive issue for anyone in public schools (K thru College).

He can't give a solution. He can pick leaders and push to get 218+60 legislators to draft and agree to vote on an improved piece of legislation and work to execute on that as best as possible.
The basic lack of civics is amazing in our society.
