Stupidity abounds.

Quote:

Austin, Texas, planned to transition all its city buses to electric, but the ambitious climate-friendly goal has come to a screeching halt.
Quote:

The Austin Monitor reports that 46 new electric buses costing around $1 million each will be in storage for at least a year due to lack of charging infrastructure to keep them running all day. The buses were manufactured by now-bankrupt Proterra, which has left city transit districts across the country with fleets of inoperable buses.

Proterra was acquired by Phoenix Motor Inc., which the Monitor reports is struggling to service warranties and repair technical issues.

The city's transit board appropriated $255 million to buy 197 electric buses, some of which were manufactured by Minnesota-based New Flyer of America. In July, KUT News reported that Austin's transit officials were beginning to realize that their ambitious e-bus plan was crumbling.

Park them on some curbs in South Austin and Take the wheels off of them and convert them into housing for the homeless. Would look a lot better than a bunch of tents and cardboard boxes.

Thank goodness Trump will put a halt to that insanity. We get a 4 year reprieve.

Another EV pig in a poke.

If these buses sit for at least a year, they likely will never run as advertised. This was a complete waste of money and the citizens of Austin should be calling for heads to roll.

Of course there will probably be zero accountability. For leftist it's the intent and thought that counts. Actual performance doesn't matter, especially when it comes to wasting other peoples' money.

City will just raise electricity rates to "pay" for the charging infrastructure, that likely will never be built out either.

What does Austin have, like 1 mill people? So they literally just burned $250 per citizen they tax? And I bet it's double that when you price in the staffing behind this program.

Foresight is yet another one of the things latte-drinking liberals aren't very good at.

I'd mention the other things they aren't very good at, but I don't want to break F16.

I attended a clean fleets symposium in CA about 4 years ago due to my previous career.

One of the big electric bud companies at the time was there driving people around in an electric bus to showcase the product. The people representing the company were straight from China and couldn't speak any English. At the time I thought that was so odd but it makes a lot of sense now. Electric car companies build crap in China, pay off US politicians to mandate a bunch of junk, then go bankrupt.

We laugh but I'm sure we, the Federal tax-payer are pitching in on this stupidity as well. Stop this BS.

The City was told by Austin Energy that the electric infrastructure wasn't in place for these Buses but also other EV charging stations. City got these EV buses from DOE grant.

Yea it would have been better if that DOE grant money went into the Austin Energy grid for grid hardening/grid resiliency instead of buses.

Guessing they are having the same issue as most other places in the country have when they try and convert heavy machinery to EV.

Austin Energy owns and operates two natural gas-fired power plants in the Austin area: the Decker Creek Power Station and the Sand Hill Energy Center.

So swap CO2 producing buses for CO2 producing electrical power plants... Makes a lot of sense.

Would be better if DoE was eliminated and there was no grant to start with. Free is very expensive.

Like all the west texas wind generation that got thrown together ASAP with all the fed subsidies, oops we have no way to ship the power where it's needed. We need to build transmission lines now.

So mind-blowingly dumb.

AHAHA, As I've mentioned here many times, I work in Compliance and AML at a broker-dealer. I won't say much more than that the stock has been on our radar for the wrong reasons.

Good luck Austin. Enjoy your lack of due diligence

Yup. Never saw a real solid number, but something between $200M and $1B.

He was still able to joke about it though. Hell if a character.
