I never watched Clarkson's auto shows and the little I have seen of them does not interest me at all.

The three seasons of his show about the farm are some of the best TV I have ever seen. I highly recommend them.

Some of the BBC version top gears were the best TV ever put on film.

I'd suggest watching the one where they attempt to make a space shuttle, their trip through the southern usa, their trip through the Amazon or their trip through Argentina.

All amazing tv.

The modern British "civil servant" will incrementally destroy their society by administrative fiat. It is run for the benefit of an urban class of takers to whom politicians are beholden.

I've been watching top gear for nearly a decade and a half now. I started watching Clarksons farm a few years ago when it dropped.

If you don't know, Jeremy Clarkson bought a farm in England and during the pandemic his farm manager retired. Despite no experience, Clarkson decided he would run the farm. The show is following him as he absolutely fails at farming, having a 20 year old kid school him daily on how to farm and Clarkson learning to love the farm life.

Its a really great show. I highly recommend.

That said, Clarkson also learns first hand of the massive bureaucracy and very heavy handed nearly totalitarian control the British federal govt and local govts have over his personal farm.

It tells him what he can and cannot do on his farm. The city council won't even let him out a road on his farm, nor build a building because it might disturb the looks of the farm from the town. The town fails to realize it's a working farm.

Now that the labour party is back in charge, they are trying to kill off their farmers, I presume in the name of climate change and leftist style communism. They say they are going to use the new tax to pay for their Healthcare system and to discourage rich landowners from blurting farms to avoid taxes.

But, nearly every farm there is worth more than the bottom value the govt is set and therefore nearly every farm will face very high tax bills when the property is transferred.

Quote:

the UK now wants to impose harsh inheritance taxes on farms - even small ones.

Starting in 2026, farms worth more than 1m will be subject to a tax of TWENTY PERCENT.

This is on top of other onerous regs dished out one farmer like fertilizer restrictions. In the end, farmers already have a hard enough time making money there, this will only hasten the destruction of Britain's agricultural communities.

Inheritance tax is about being able to allow for the rich to buy up all the farm land on the cheap. It is a clear step toward total tyranny

French farmers really know how to protest.

This attack on farming is going on all over Europe, and no matter what reason they give, it's really about climate change

Don't forget all the intrusive EOs done by the Biden admin around HVAC, gas stoves, refrigerators and the like. The headline reason was always how much money our benevolent government would be saving for us with these regs, but of course in a later paragraph the real reason was always mentioned (their climate change power play).

Small quibble, sounds like an estate tax, not an inheritance tax. The money is stolen from the farm, then they get their inheritance.

Either is despicable, but at least an inheritance tax would only tax the actual value received by each child.

And with progressive tax rates, taxing value split between 2 or more kids means less tax paid

All part of cultural genocide. The farmers are a backbone of a country not just food wise, but value and culture wise. They are an intrinsic part of a country's identity . That is why the closeted Stalinist homosexual sociopath PM is trying to destroy them as a group, Along with his Muslim allies

They are disarmed and tremendously dumbed down by their education/media systems. Not gonna happen.

It should go without saying, this is exactly what Democrats here fantasize about doing. No small coincidence Labour sent folks over to campaign for Kamala, and Chris Steele etc. in Russiagate were absolutely critical to the efforts to stymie Trump in 2017-2020. "Five Eyes" needs to be ended, and more should recognize the UK and German governments (which of course includes the EU) as enemies of the American people/freedom, because that is what they are.

We also watched that show. Had to stop watching, the incredible amount of regulations were to horrible to contemplate!!! It was disheartening to think that any country would try and do that, then Kamala ran and I knew it could become real!!!!

And the last episode of Season 1 he shared how he learned that - because of all these regulations - he barely broke even (or maybe lost money), and how that vast majority of farmers aren't lucky like he is to be wealthy already.

His passion for this fight is genuine, not the "issues" that celebrities in America fight for simply to feel like better people.

I love Jeremy Clarkson, wish he lived in America!

The people have zero real weapons to fight the gov't. Unless the UK military joins them in revolt, they are doomed in a revolution.

And, since all but the most conservative among them have become cravenly enslaved to the State, they won't revolt and will slowly suffer to death.

I give more leeway to MSM than just about anyone here, but the lady in that video was about to make my head explode. She was interviewing. She was attempting character assassination on camera.

Maybe because I have farmers in my family, but that's ridiculous.

Putting your company/property in a corp doesn't shield your heirs from the immoral taxes that may be levied against them.

Who the F though making death a taxable event was a good thing? Democrats.

Yes can confirm this is correct. I believe the cap is $11m but of course dems want to lower that substantially. It's an incredibly stupid process that makes me angry just to think about. You will have to get valuations on basically everything. On the one hand, you want the value as low as possible if you're even close to flirting with that cap. And on the other, you want them as high as possible to avoid capital gains if you decide to sell. Inheritance tax is the most immoral tax on the books. Followed closely by property taxes and the income tax. And there are a lot of leftists that think inheritance tax should be much higher and unavoidable. Leftism is literally economic cancer.

This is how revolutions eventually start. At some point the people (serfs in this case) reach a point where the government is so overbearing that extreme measures are the last resort.

The Magna Carta was signed in 1215. 810 years is a long time between uprisings against the government over there.

  • Britain is not Communist; it is Socialist. So they are never going to be Conservative by any stretch of the imagination.
  • The Cotswolds is one of the most iconic villages/regions in Britain. If I lived there I wouldn't someone f***ing it up, either.
  • Clarkson is a prat and clearly rubs the people in that area the wrong way. While his antics are highly entertaining, he is his own worst enemy which makes it hard for the council to take him seriously.
  • He is stinking rich, so again its hard for the council to take him seriously (as a farmer).
  • Finally, ALL the regulations they have on farmers in England are ridiculous. It's amazing to me anyone is still farming. If they are not careful they are going to truly ruin themselves.

I guess the UK just wants to become more dependent on foreign countries for their food supply. I saw a stat that says that they have to import 40% of their food (compared to our ~15%). This will only become worse if they continue down that path.

Increase of farmland going on the market in the UK.

There just isn't that much. Can we put a fund together and buy enough until we control their markets?

  • Yes, how dare a private property owner want to invest in their property. The yuppies that give in his little town are they worst sort of nimby

  • Clarkson is a prat and clearly rubs the people in that area the wrong way. While his antics are highly entertaining, he is his own worst enemy which makes it hard for the council to take him seriously.

  • True. He is very divisive. Blowing up his house was probably a poor choice.

That said, he clearly is taking this seriously. Its a pretty hard episode when the town wants to shut down his shop because he doesn't have parking, but they won't him permission to build any parking, and the dairy farmer is only surviving because of the sales from his shop. She is devastated. But, yes, punish the very people who make that land so attractive.

  • He is stinking rich, so again its hard for the council to take him seriously (as a farmer).

  • Again, should his farm lose money because he's already rich? The pettiness of this sort of thinking is absurd
  • Finally, ALL the regulations they have on farmers in England are ridiculous. It's amazing to me anyone is still farming. If they are not careful they are going to truly ruin themselves.

Agreed - but in the end it is hard for (some) people to take a rich prat seriously. Problem is, they would probably treat upstanding, regular farmers the same way.
Who?mikejones!
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree. And the regular farmer doesn't have the resources to fight back so they must simply take it. God forbid they have an idea to create new revenue streams on their farm that requires an alteration to the landscape. And probably not even an ugly one. Just a slightly different look.

That's a really smart strategy to make it harder on the people who grow your food. The Ukraine famine in the 1920's comes to mind. History repeating itself. Commies lack the ability to learn.

And if the democrats ever get back in power, they'd love do something like this here. They want to control food production. For climate change, of course.

When nothing happens after the 12-year GOP reign, tell the commies to STFU about their climate lies.
