Generation, especially nuke, is great. We have to address the transmission system in conjunction to building more generation. We are in a bigger bind with transmission than generation right now.

Twenty 100MW plants distributed across the grid and/or dedicated to local AI data centers (which will drive a lot of this), instead of one 2 gigawatt in the middle of nowhere will reduce the need for too much long haul transmission systems.
It's the right idea, but you're never going to get 10 new plants built, let alone 20, thanks to people who don't want them in their backyards.

We need every Mw we can get from all sources. Nuclear, gas, coal, solar, wind, geothermal, tidal generation. Demand is going through the roof. Diversity of sources is the best risk management strategy.

Can we also stockpile a nuclear arsenal? The Republic of Texas could use a little teeth

Finally some common sense energy sources, but how many years before new nuclear will be online? 10 years?

Whatever the cost estimate is, double/triple it and add 5 years. Based on experience with the one built in Georgia.

Texas gets crap for the power issues with Ercot but the state is flourishing with the massive oil, gas, wind and solar output. Truly the energy capital. It would be great to add nuclear to the mix.

There is no other way forward with our given technology at this time and our power usage as a nation. We need to go nuclear and it should have been done at least a decade ago.

I will say, anecdotally, that I don't see much anymore about saving power measures in the home. Things like turning off lights and unplugging things not in constant use, etc. Those were things that we were even reminded about in school when I was growing up. It was damn near mainstream from what I can recall. Is that still a thing and I am just not seeing it now? I guess it's just morphed into buying power efficient products?

I remember Hillary and the Dems debating this in 2007 during the run up to the Dem Primary and then saying we couldn't expand nuclear because it would take a decade to be viable…. We could've had dozens of new plants online by 2018-2020; but NoooooooooOooooo; we'd rather moan about 1 type of energy rather than progress real solutions.

This would be an amazing thing and a game changer. No climate alarmist can be taken seriously if they won't consider nuclear.

My wife has an irrational need to turn on lights inside and outside the house and then leave. Kids are horrible about it too. The amount of time I spend turning off lights....

Get led bulbs and quit worrying. They run on 1/10th the wattage or less in most cases.

Or get alexa and set auto-turn-off routines.

Enjoy life more. Profit.

This goes along with what a friend who works for Zackery engineering told me recently. I'm almost positive he told me they have some projects in line to build very small nuclear power plants that are container size units. I'll have to ask him when I see him again. These units are built for very specific needs.
