I don't like the military being deployed against people who are here domestically. That seems like a very risky proposition.

HOWEVER, what the Democrats allowed to happen over the last four years is a literal invasion in every sense of the word. In fact, it's more of an invasion that any of our enemies could ever have hoped to accomplish through a military campaign. It is absolutely worthy of a state of emergency, and it is absolutely worthy of military action. The fact that it happened slowly with no mainstream media coverage over the course of four years does not change that. I'm in favor.

What crime am I suspected of committing? What evidence do you have that leads you to believe I've committed or will be committing a crime?

It's scary how little some of you think of the Constitution when it's your pet project being implemented.

Did you not read my original post. EVERYONE must now be suspect of entering illegally. Everyone. It's been that way for decades now.

And when they detain you for longer than you like and ask you for your ID? All of a sudden we're putting our faith in law enforcement officers being reasonable.

Better than putting our faith in humanity not to break our laws by entering illegally, evidently.

In Texas, they have to have reasonable evidence to suspect you of a crime to detain you and request ID.

The reasonable evidence is the 10 million illegal entries allowed in the last 4 years alone. Next question?

Strawman. Cannot prove a non-crime. In the case of illegal immigration, there is documentary evidence of your right to be in this country.

Unless you're accused if terrorism. Then you can be detained with no recourse....thank you to Obama( signed it into law), Trump and Biden (both renewed it) under the NDAA

People expecting 35 million deportations are going to be extremely disappointed. There will be more extensive deportation of criminal aliens and, at most, a sizable cohort of single young male deportations. Trump isn't stupid enough to give the democrats the visual of soldiers dragging hundreds of thousands of tax paying families across the border. Moreover, the immediate economic shock of doing something like that would drive prices in certain sectors so high that nobody will remember anything else about his second term. It's a lose/lose.

But not from being forced to show your ID when asked for it by certain extensions of the state

That is not how ICE and CBP operate. At the border or a checkpoint you must declare your citizenship. If you are an American you move along. If there is some question you go to secondary inspection for further scrutiny:

In the interior, ICE and CBP can piggyback off of other lawful detentions to question a person about their citizenship. Otherwise they engage in consensual encounters like every other law enforcement officer. They have to have a reason to detain you further if you have declared that you are a US citizen.

If whoever is advising Trump is smart, there will be an ICE agent 247/365 at every jail in America and will conduct their immigration inspection at booking in the jail. Also, put ICE with all of the local gang and street crimes units. Have ICE at every probation office.

Once that is done, have ICE at the DMV and every welfare office.

Use 287(g) to cross designate as many local LEOs as possible as immigration officers.

So many people here all of a sudden trusting government employees with ridiculous amounts of power bestowed upon them. "Round up the illegals and deport them" sounds so nice and simple, but of course the Law of Unintended Consequences will be a *serious* factor here.

It's time to define the term "mass deportations". I think it means many different things ranging from a nationwide sweep of any illegal with criminal record, and ripping kids out of houses like Elian Gonzalez.

My guess is it ends up more like Obama "mass deportations."

This

The fact that Obama isn't thought of by the masses as the deporter in Chief still blows my mind. His administration carried out more deportations than any President in history, including Trump, and it wasn't close.

One, if you are driving this is not true. And because the vast majority of ID requests from non-criminals occurs during traffic stops, refusing to provide ID effectively amounts to legal justification for detention for most people most of the time.

Second, judges across the country and at the federal level have consistently upheld evidence found during supposedly illegal detentions/searches. If you refuse to show ID, many authorities/agents/officers will use that as justification in the moment then look for ANY reason to make it stick.

I think you will see even wilder stuff being posited in the time leading up to inauguration day - Trump's team is trying to encourage self-deportations and get illegals turning back before they get here.

Even adjusting for this, his number of deportations minus "deportations" was STILL more than any President in history.

Ding Ding Ding!

75% of the battle is simply getting them not to come at all. Those that are already here can start making plans to leave, especially if they have a criminal record (beyond illegal entry in to the US).

All they have to do is say they suspected you of such. There is virtually no burden of proof requirement for authorities in these instances. For example (annd a common scenario), an officer finding weed on you during a search who post-facto claims he suspected you of having weed will win every time.
