Politico: Washington's lobbyists are stunned Trump chose RFK Jr
Quote:

That could pose a major threat to a broad swath of American industry's bottom line. Lobbyists who hadn't taken the possibility seriously say their phones are blowing up over Trump's decision, and industry leaders are trying to quickly leverage any connections to Kennedy to mitigate the risk he could pose. More than a dozen who work for companies in RFK's crosshairs said they're telling clients to keep their cool. Their attitude is indicative of the confusion gripping Washington's lobbying corridor, K Street, since Trump's election earlier this month.
Getting my popcorn ready because this will be fun to watch. Something tells me that Pence standing against RFK Jr is a ploy by Big Food & Pharma lobbyists trying to discredit him by any means necessary. All the more reason why he needs to be at the helm of HHS.

Spot on. Americans gave a mandate. We need to destroy those who interfere. Primary them out, cancel them, lawfare them, whatever it takes. We are tired of their **** and we must have RFK Jr's back!

It's surprising that they're "stunned" when it was discussed or at least heavily expected when RFK Jr. threw his support behind Trump.

Really hoping they confirm him. It's pretty clearly the will of the people.

Guess they thought he would cast him aside when politically convenient. You can say a lot about Trump, but the man is loyal. You support him and he'll support you and follow through on his commitment.

The tactic will be attacking RFK Jr personally. He has a reputation as a bit eccentric, and they will likely choose to attack the messenger instead of the message. We might see research studies being thrown at each other to try and out-credential each other, but ideally RFK Jr is able to accomplish Trumps' directive of "restoring these agencies to the traditions of gold standard scientific research and transparency", and that food processing and food manufacturing companies (yes, a lot of our food is manufactured) no longer get to rubber stamp their own creations with their own studies.

These drug and food companies are also huge advertisers on news networks and daytime television in general. News outlets are going to have a vested interest in protecting their advertisers. A lot of slimy stuff is about to happen.

Correct. I think the first priority of his is having legislation approved to outlaw pharmaceutical advertising on TV and news outlets. We are only 1 of 2 countries in the world that allow it.

That's a good point. I expect much lies and propaganda from the Dem media. I think something like 80% of ad revenue comes from Big Pharma.

This is bigger than democrat vs republican. Pharmaceutical companies are in the pocket of both parties. Hell, it's because of the Reagan administration that they are shielded from vaccine liability in the first place. I really hope that all starts to change and that 4 years is enough time to have a movement started.

And democrats choose to be on the side of big pharma. Does that say anything about them? Wasn't it always the evil Republicans who were associated with big pharma?

Just thinking about how much Big Pharma spends on TV advertising. You can't watch TV without seeing a half dozen pharma ads per hour. I have seen estimates that it may be as high as $1 billion per month. Considering that the US is one of the few countries in the world that allows pharmaceutical ads on TV, that alone is going to get a lot of people's attention.

Industry is used to politicians making bold claims and then not following through. Starting to really worry that Trump is going toafter he nominated RFK. Probably scared the FDA won't be hiring food and drug execs to regulate themselves. FDA and SEC are horrible about that. Would be like having Exxon and Dupont execs running the EPA.

The fact that we had the food pyramid that we did for decades tells you all you need to know. The 1984 COVID reaction.

They aren't looking out for you. I don't agree with RFK on a lot of things but siccing him on this industry I'm totally fine with.

It's not like he's going to gut the entire thing. We will end up with a few reforms here and there and that's probably about it.

Agree that both get money, Kamala got almost $2 million and Trump got around $300k this election.

But the Dem media and entertainment industry survives on that ad revenue. That means they will use their news channels to pump propaganda. The Rs don't control entertainment companies.

What's ironic is that Carpenter wanted to make it as a backlash at Reagan policies but it's so applicable to Progressive liberals today.
We'll win this war, but we'll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we've got more guts than they have, or ever will have. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-b******, were going to rip out their living G*******d guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun c********** by the bushel-f****** basket. War is a bloody killing business. You've got to spill their blood or they will spill yours. Rip them up the belly. Shot them in the guts.

And in the absence of these pharma commercials? Might I suggest a return to the golden age of TV ads - beer commercials! Think back to the old Miller Lite ones with Rodney Daingerfield, John Madden, Bubba Smith, etc.

I mean, if we're headed back to early Reagan era economy and deregulation, etc., why not lean into the nostalgia?

It's going to cost but it needs to be done. I think Kennedy has a hardon about our river's and lakes too. I believe that's where he started with his pushback but now he's targeted the head of the snake. Remember Bayer is huge Pharma and Ag.

I agree that drug advertising is a net negative on the national scale.

On the individual scale, though:
1) How do you justify a government that can tell John Doe he doesn't have the government's permission to freely enter into an agreement to pay Jane Smith x dollars for Jane's TV company to play John's commercial?
2) How do you write your law in such a way that it doesn't expand the powers that the next administration will use to further interfere with business transactions?

In a similar vein, in years past the bar association considered it unethical for attorneys to advertise. Drug and ambulance chasing lawyer advertising has been a huge negative to current culture. Media is completely compromised by all the ad money. Lawyers are incapable of policing their own. Can a repurposed DHS fix this? Or an AMA with new found cajones?

Shame on food and drug companies for advertising! The government should remove their right to advertise, and tax them more!
