Starting Jan. 1, Washington may halt sales of new motorhomes and large trucks powered by diesel or gasoline due to emissions regulations modeled after California's standards.

The new rules apply to vehicles with more than 8,500 pounds gross vehicle weight, impacting most RVs, medium- to heavy-duty trucks and interstate tractor-trailers.

"This has caused quite a disruption in the industry," Washington State Truckers Association CEO Sheri Call told KIRO Newsradio Thursday.

The changes stem from California's Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) legislation, which Washington lawmakers committed to follow in 2020. The RV and trucking industries are now bracing for a major shift in sales moving forward.

... It wasn't until Oct. 23 that the full and immediate impact of the changes became clear.

On that day, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) the agency responsible for these regulations amended its Advanced Clean Truck (ACT) standards. The amendments require manufacturers to gradually increase the percentage of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) they sell in the state, with targets ranging from 4% to 7%.

Manufacturers will be restricted from selling gas- or diesel-powered vehicles over 8,500 pounds unless they first meet the ZEV sales targets. The regulations primarily target large diesel and gas-powered motorhomes, including Class A and large Class C models, aligning with Washington's goal to phase out new gasoline vehicle sales by 2035.

"I don't know of any manufacturers with an EV program yet," Rogers noted, adding that all brands on his lot will be affected by these new rules.

... "They (Washington) are desperately trying to create a market for these vehicles that doesn't exist," Call said.

and before the inevitable "ha ha" CA DOES drive large parts of the auto industry. And things they do impact ALL vehicle mfg, and raise costs for EVERYONE. EVERYWHERE.

This part of the law pertains to private individual /personal vehicles.

Work vehicles have their own set of rules.

But yes, the laws call for even commercial vehicles (or at least a percentage of them) to start complying with similar standards.

not how it works for the western states. after certain upcoming dates, you will be UNABLE to register vehicles in the states unless they comply with the new rules.

and you will be ticketed if your vehicles are registered out of state but reside/used in state.

This is what tests my commitment to states having the ultimate say.

I would love for Trump to strike this bs down, but I make a choice to stay in liberalville and until people get frustrated enough to vote against these policies, we just have to take it.

amazon has already converted a large part of the delivery fleet to EV trucks here and is deploying more and more.

Logging trucks will of course have exemptions due to their use in and around remote locations and need for heavy power.

California will buy electric ones because it's government tax dollars and they believe in using government dollars to promote ideals and don't care about budgeting or practicality.

Californians: Man, I can't afford a house so I'm going to have live in an RV

California Government: About that...

Also California: We need to help those individuals experiencing homelessness

Trying to comply with federal EPA emissions standards with background emissions floating over from China is completely asinine. It's estimated that 30% of the particulates floating around CA are due to China. Federal standards continue to tighten, and it's entirely possible that if everyone in CA drove electric vehicles, they STILL would not meet the federal regulations.

Good luck CA.

Nope let these states demonstrate failed leftist policies before they can spread.

The governments of those states would love to do away with logging. They will celebrate the demise of log trucks.

Will Kamala move back to her state because it is the center of "freedom"? I think not (unless she runs for governor). Cali is a prison. The good inmates are escaping in droves.

Nevada will figure a way you can register your RV in Nevada regardless of where you live. If any state can do it, Nevada can.

Maybe allowing any idiot who qualifies for the default "Class C" license to drive vehicles up to 26,000 lb wasn't a good idea.

One would think, but fully licensed truckers do the same thing. Pass when they take 10 minutes to get around someone, drive too slow, and congest traffic. It's a big vehicle problem. Really just trying to rib all of the RV owners.
