Congress decides budgets. DOGE can recommend firing people that the President signs off on.Aggies76 said:
Pardon my ignorance, but DOGE will not have the power to make department budget cuts will they? Don't they have to run these through Congress? Could take a while.
The people mandated this..... Elon will spend to vote non-compliance out.Quote:
I may be wrong, but I don't think they have any sort of power. It's just a commission that will make recommendations. Then passed onto Executive, Legislative...
I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say that the people in this administration are significantly smarter, more motivated and have the means to get this done than in Reagans era.TexasAggie73 said:
Don't be to hopeful. Regan had this same type of commission and it didn't go very far at all.

Reagan also had a Dem congress. Congress could give them some statutory leeway as well. It will be very hard to vote against that stuff. The money they highlight could also be frozen by Trump and yes there will be lawsuits and so forth but you start freezing government funds to NGOs and they have to rely on donors, they just don't have enough donors or pro bono lawyers to get it done. Even if they win and shake the money loose it will come at an extreme cost. The process is the punishment.

Milei will be the first foreign leader to meet Trump following his victory. He is expected to serve as a “mentor” for Trump and @elonmusk's government efficiency plans.

It will primarily operate as a very, very visible signal for how much money the government actually lights on fire.GreasenUSA said:

While there has always been government waste, the wasteful spending now is exponentially higher than it was during the Reagan era so this will be dramatically easier. Plus Elon and Vivek are far more motivated/powerful than anyone Reagan had.TexasAggie73 said:

I hope 50,000 federal government workers in DC alone are fired in the first few months.
The average house price in DC has gone up almost 400% over the last 20 years. That should tell you all you need to know that we have too many federal workers in DC and their incomes are far too high.
Absolutely, this is feeling Founding like.Quote:

There is more than plenty of federal waste. Make the case(s) one at a time with numbers to back
It up. Eat the elephant a bite at a time. Much of it should be a slam dunk just based on there's so much going on that's out of the realm of the Constitution.
