This is ridiculous! if not, lets start building ports that aren't controlled by the ILA!

The contract has to specify that automation will never be implemented at the ports, or the ILA won't sign off!

Just two days into their first round of negotiations since ending a three-day strike at the East and Gulf Coast ports, union dockworkers have already walked away from the master contract talks.

The International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) broke off the contract negotiations Tuesday afternoon, saying that their employers, the U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX) introduced language in their proposal for semi-automated equipment to be used at the ports.

I said it during the strike.

Automation will not happen overnight. It'll take years, decades even to fully implement. Automation likely won't cost anytime their jobs.
Job "losses" can be handled through regular attrition, retirements, and promotion/reassignment.

What it does man is that the last ILA members are probably in middle school right now. Maybe even high school.

It threatens the union. Not the worker.
