What kind of secret service detail do they get and when does it start? I hope a lot and early; so many crazy lib mf'rs out there.

pretty sure none.

By law, the Secret Service is authorized to protect: The president, the vice president, (or other individuals next in order of succession to the Office of the President), the president-elect and vice president-elect. The immediate families of the above individuals.

If I'm not mistaken, only the attorney general, Secretary of State and Secretary of defense get Secret Service

Back in 2019 my wife and I were in Auckland New Zealand happen to be staying at the same hotel at the Hilton in downtown Auckland and Secretary of Defense Mark Esper was there with Secret Service all over the hotel grounds

Title 18 of the United States Code, Section 3056, describes the agency's authority as provided by law.

  • The President of the United States
  • The Vice President of the United States
  • The president's and vice president's immediate families
  • Former presidents, their spouses and their minor children under the age of 16
  • Foreign heads of state and their spouses visiting the United States
  • Major presidential and vice presidential candidates and their spouses
  • Events designated as National Special Security Events by the Secretary, U.S. Department of Homeland Security

Others may receive TEMPORARY protection. but not permanent.
By custom, it also provides protection to the secretary of the treasury and secretary of homeland security, as well as other people as directed by the president (usually the White House chief of staff and national security advisor, among others).

Every agency has their own armed police. I would expect they provide their own security details.

I stayed in downtown Auckland, NZ back in July 2008 when Condoleezza Rice was in town.

They must have had every Kiwi police officer deployed to my hotel (The Langham). It was crawling with cops.

Didn't seem to slow down the street hookers though.
