No one has made that claim. This is strictly between the Tacoma and Colorado. The GM 2.7 in the Colorado has been out for 6 years now. It's not a new powerplant. It has great reliability and is a customer favorite. I'd rather have it than the 5.3 in the 1500's. It's that good. The current Tacoma engine has had numerous problems. We are talking about the present. And if you're in the market for a 2024 Midsize truck the choice is abundantly clear between the two models. In reality, the choice is between the Colorado/Canyon and the Nissan Frontier, with the Tacoma not being a part of the conversation. That can change as Toyota fixes their issues, but that's how it is today.

That's exactly right. We tend to keep them 8-10 years or 180k - 200k miles. That is definitely not normal in 2024 America. The vast majority go payment shopping and get the status symbol they want for the lowest payment they can then rinse and repeat 3 years down the line. Thats not the car manufacturers fault and it's not the government's to solve.

I'd rather drive an old international 1000s trucks if this was based purely on aesthetics. I've actually been looking at a few on marketplace lately (which makes it funny choice for you to post) because im a glutton for punishment.

I've had experience with old internationals, actually owned a spirit of '76 that was in fantastic shape for its age. But it was a pig, realively underpowered, transmission was crap and parts weren't as readily available as GM vehicles.

And it rode like absolute dog *****

Comparing that to anything made in the last 10 years is a joke (unless you spend 10-15k modifying it).

And while the toyota imv truck doesn't meet usa safety crap, I guarantee it's way safer than that international truck (or any pre 1980s truck for that matter). I have a family and it is something to consider.

2006 Ford Econoline with 190K (just sold)
2006 Honda Pilot with 200K
2009 Kia hatchback with 165K
2013 Volvo with 120K

I've easily saved $250,000 over my career by driving used cars and paying cash for them. I'm a multimillionaire, and I can't imagine buying a new car.

It's okay to live a little. I'm not saying that should come in the form of a new car for you, but rather that buying a new car isn't a bad decision for everyone.

Yeah i agree never buy first year, heard that Toyota has found and has a fix for the current turbo issues. If you ever buy a used one make sure the fix was completed.

They need to quit making cars a computer with a motor.

I've had to replace 3 SENSORS in my truck. 2 are stupid expensive because you have to repair a whole tank/assembly

One killed 4wd and cruise control when it went out.

Another "reduced engine power"

The third, a DEF sensor, will nerf my top speed to 5 mph unless I get it fixed. Truck runs fine, it's the damn computer/sensors that keep tearing up.

I posted it because it was the first truck I ever drove ('72 1110). We had one when I was in HS.

I also had a '70 TravelAll.

I was just pointing out that that Toyota truck is ugly as absolute dog *****..and that Americans would rather drive that old IH than one of those.

I had the rear axle locker sensor go out on my Jeep Wrangler (known problem). It was covered under warranty.

The factory solution was to replace the entire axle.

Not open up the diff, replace the sensor, then close it up and fill it up.

The one that "reduced engine power" was a sensor to monitor the coolant overflow tank.

It's a clear/opaque tank. I have eyeballs dammit! Coolant fluid was between min/max and the engine heat levels were normal.

I may never buy another new car (have purchased 2 in my life - I'm 54). I thought I would buy the exact truck I wanted just once when I retire in a few years - but not for nearly $100K. I'll look for a lower mileage diesel truck that is pre all the emissions crap and overpay for it (they seem to be selling in the $30-50K range).

And gear head might think those trips are a waste. People have different ways to enjoy life. For some it's travel. For some it's a huge home. For some it's clothing. For some it's cars.

Life is meant to be enjoyed and not every purchase needs a financial return.

I suspect to subsidize the losses on EVs.

But everything has got more expensive, not just cars. And cars were selling for over MSRP not long ago. That's not an EV thing. Even manufacturers that haven't gone on EV's like Toyota have raised prices significantly.

The reason prices are high is because people are willing to pay it. It's that simple.

In LA, every time I saw a really expensive car (Lambo, Rolls, etc.), it was driven by a mid-30s Persian looking guy, or a guy who looked like he was in the NBA.

The current age of my fleet is - 5, 23, 25 and mileage is 70k, 130k, 250k
They'll probably rust out and fall apart before they stop running.
