House conservatives have opted not to challenge Johnson as house speaker, but want vote to be recorded.

I do see the need for the Reps to not start off in total civil war, but have my doubts that Johnson will be strong for Team MAGA

MAGA is not the same as conservative and the FC is conservative. That said no one is going to contest Johnson because Trump wants Johnson and no one wants a fight.

I know Mike personally. I can guarantee you there is not a better, smarter, honest, or more serious congressman in this nation. I have no doubt, every thing he does, even though it might, out of necessity, be a compromise, is in the best interest of America.

This is huge, cause we don't have any time to waste with infighting BS. There's a LOT of stuff to fix ASAP and safeguard our future. IMO Johnson is solid and wants to get things done.

Assuming the Senate leadership fight won't be too bad since they're not so emotional over there.
Pretty sure most of you don’t know me.

There are bigger fights to be had at the moment. If he's not getting it done he can always be replaced.

Johnson has been loyal. He stays till that changes.

Not for some of us. If I see him try and pass even ONE continuing resolution, he's toast. There is no reason for him to continue caving on spending.

Good, stability and unity is needed. They need to be ready to go Jan 20 and hit the Dems with so much so fast they can't get on their feet and recover, and get policy that works implemented.

He only needs to please one person. That person decides if he's toast or not.

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of the constitution. representatives are elected by the people and not appointed by the president. If house leadership botches this, they won't retain the people's support. And most of these congressmen plan on sticking around long after that "one person" is gone.

I know it works on paper. I'm telling you how it works in the real world.

Does the GOP house not have issues like the Senate does with murkowski and collins? If the GOP only gets a 2 person majority, then can't 3 of the 220 gop congressmen hold out on key bills to hurt Trump?

Based on his record the last two years, I respectfully disagree. Every R voted to not renew warrantless spying and Johnson broke the tiebreaker, siding with the Dems to continue it.

The only reason they are not pursuing a change is because Trump, et al don't want a distraction this early. He'll bring to the floor whatever Trump tells him to bring and vote however Trump tells him to vote. He's a token now, nothing else.

Yeah, this is where I'm at too. I WANT to like the guy and believe he's the right type of leader. But time and time again, he's broken down to the will of the left.

Now I recognize most of the time he didn't have the leverage to do much, but you give an excellent example where I can't understand his vote.

Will he flip and show some backbone now that there are reinforcements and a mandate. Or is he just another typical politician that puts on a good show, but always disappoints.

We don't need any more swell, aww shucks guys. We need ass kickers.

In theory but in reality the House has very different rules from the Senate. The Speaker can put immense pressure on someone in their Party to vote how they want them to. You can be backbenched into obscurity very easily in the House but it's much harder to do that in the Senate. Also the tradition is very different. The House is much more authoritarian and the Senate is much more collegial.

Both can be true. Everything I see and hear about Mike Johnson as a person makes me believe he is top flight. There were likely good reasons we don't and won't ever know for why he did what he did . The house is not a black and white world, a lot of shades of gray in there especially when the D/R mix is so tight.

My opinion is that you are seeing the effects of actually recognizing the mandate that the American people have given...

It's very clear that this is Trump's ship to steer, and the voters expect leadership to fall in line behind the captain...

They have 2 years show that Trump's way works and actually makes the lives of Americans better, and if they accomplish this, it likely gives them a good chance in the 2026 mid-terms to retain power and get 2 more years of work done...

As someone noted above, there's no time for infighting and distractions...the voters are expecting results...get to work...
