even with no TSA we will still need some level of security theater in all airports.

too many bad faith actors out there, foreign and domestic, that will be willing to take advantage of failures in our travel infrastructure.

that will still have to be funded somehow.
you do know it used to be funded by the airlines and airports before, right?

Pre-9/11 the airlines were responsible for hiring security. The original TSA security seemed very professional. After a year it became worse than the airline provided security. Going back to requiring the airlines or airports proving security based upon federal regulations would not make flying any less safe.

The List of Shame will be both highly entertaining and blood-boiling at the same time.

Think of the layers and layers of worthless positions that have been hiding n the shadows for so long, finally getting a light shined on them.

The hell of it is our Congress should have done this work all along, BUT, once again it's too valuable to stay in office to do the dirty work. Plus the damn machine is a huge runaway train so where do you start?

Whatever is left after this (likely most of it), needs to be chopped up into manageable pieces.
I don't think you know me.

Honestly, I would rather see this as a new permanent office within the federal government. I know that seems counter intuitive to waste. But I'd like to see a cabinet position, "Secretary of Government Efiiciency." Rather than have two private business people influencing decisions, this deserves much more attention and having a cabinet position makes this move last beyond President Trump's next four years.

He's not entirely wrong. Being serious about government waste doesn't need to be saddled with it being a "meme." Most memes don't last.

A permanent agency just evolves into another bureaucracy that eventually would become another dysfunctional waste of taxpayer money.

Two outsiders looking at the system as a whole would have more freedom to cut unnecessary agencies and programs.

Fair. But the "meme" department is a two year project that is focused on one thing and one thing only. I don't want to endorse idiocracy but with two very bright individuals being named for a temporary position, an ironic acronym isn't high on my list of concerns.

I get that. But, think about it, if it's a one off thing under President Trump, there is nothing standing in the way of the fed just returning to bloat after he's gone.

In my opinion: Good. Americans need to wake up to the fact that a country doesn't function on auto pilot. If "DOGE" works, then let the next round of presidential candidates run on doing it again.

You've actually been very reasonable with this board, so I'm am genuinely curious.

How would you cut govt waste? I think you're on board, based on posting history, what would you like cut?

There are probably 100,000+ people in the greater DC area in the government sphere - govt employees, lawyers, lobbyists, think tanks, and NGO grifters - who are now worried about losing their jobs.

They've got fat mortgages, Mercedes payments, club memberships, and school fees to worry about.

And as they admired the diplomas on their walls and sneered at the problems of everyday Americans, they thought the grift would never end.

Good riddance.

And since I know some of these people, I can say that the best part of what's coming is that these pseudo-intellectual, wannabe elites shape and build their entire identities as human beings around what their job title is, what airport lounge access they have, and what cocktail parties they get invited to.

Their entire world is about to get turned upside down. And it couldn't happen to a more odious and vapid group of people.

It can always become a permanent agency responsible for sunsetting other groups if necessary.

For now, I absolutely love the idea that is has a 2 year expiration, ahead of 250 year celebration and the next election.
