With the US drawing back even slightly from overseas entanglements, it seems the EU maybe waking up to a new paradigm where they need to be more self-reliant. Interesting video discussing the push for many nations is Europe pushing to get everyone up to 3% GDP spending on defense. Funny point made in the video is they can't wait for Germany to take the lead because they won't. Poland seems to be the most willing o be the standard setter as they are aggressively arming themselves.

I've heard in recent days a couple EU countries are voting in less left politicians. A lot of the countries are wanting their borders closed

NATO membership should be pay to play.

NATO should be done. It served a purpose when it was created now it is just a way for US politicians to launder money to other countries while loading their own pockets.

I get that we have been the exclusive beneficiaries of NATO's Article 5… but if NATO membership had frozen when the USSR collapsed we'd be able to say "nobody has encroached on you for 40 years! You have nothing to worry about!"

Maybe we might want treaty bound allies if we go to war with China.

Feel like that might be helpful.

That's because all those countries right on Russia's border immediately joined NATO to stop from being overrun again.

And they weren't overrun again.

Ukraine, Georgia, and a few other close neighbors (Chechnya) weren't so lucky.

Be serious, man.

If the United States of America and the People's Republic of China go to an actual declared war, pretty much every damn country on the face of Planet Earth is going to have to pick a side, treaty or not.

You think Europe needs a treaty to not want China to be the planet's sole remaining military superpower and empire?

The Poles have been long walked on, didn't like it and don't intend it to happen again. Theirs is a serious country conducted by serious people.
