Harris campaign paid political endorsements

There are plenty of other celebrities they Harris/Walz campaign paid for endorsements according to FEC filings.

Here is the short list so far.

$10 million to Beyonc
$5 million to Megan Thee Stallion
$2.3 million to Lizzo
$1.8 million to Eminem
$1 million to Oprah


I am not even close to being a legal expert, but I thought paid political ads has to be disclosed to the public. From what I can see many of these celeb "endorsements" were actually paid advertisement from campaign funds.

Any of our more legal minded folks here have any details or precedent's set in previous elections?

I agree it is paid politcial advertising and should have been disclosed. Need to close that loophole and make sure they are reporting the income. Having said that, this is absolutely insane. Especially since these paid "endorsements" probably did more harm than good.

Just like the good Democrat, Kamala took other people's cash and threw it around like it was monopoly money. She had no idea if it was a wise, prudent expenditure, just throwing it out there and hoping something would stick.

Over a billion dollars collected and she still lost the race and ended with a deficit. It's a case in point why she would have been a terrible president, and why Democrats in general cannot be trusted with the public pursestrings.

So glad those people aren't in charge of government spending, at least for the next four years.

This just scratches the surface. How many social media influencers took the money, copy, and pasted a message? Bet that is more in total than a few celebs.

I'd get my other stuff on track first so we don't get bogged down in "Trump os seeking revenge" and then I'd hit the big name ones and make sure the law is clear. The smaller ones I would at least make sure have some uncomfortable discussions with Federal attorneys so that they realize how serious this is.

For any of the people who performed at her concerts, err rallies, they could claim the money was for the performance, not for an endorsement.

Now, Beyonce and Oprah didn't perform so they can't use that excuse.

This creator say she was contacted by Harris campaign and offered $25,000 for a post promoting Harris.

She said she saw others posting the same paid content, and she specifically called out Selling Sunset cast personality Chrishell Stause.

they loophole will be that Harris paid for production cost associated with going on these shows or podcast. Its still a paid endorsement, but I bet that gets around the legal stuff

If they paid someone to come to a rally, well you don't need to announce its a political endorsement for obvious reasons.

I'm absolutely not defending this... At all...

My guess with some of these is that's a standard fee for content creation and they're walking a VERY fine line. Those same content creators wouldn't say "Coca cola paid me to put coke bottles and 12 packs all over my set and to sip a coke during my interviews!" But, at the same time everyone watching would KNOW they were being paid for product placement. Then I'm the same breath want you to think this was all organic and grass roots.

If Oprah did the interview/sit down for free, wouldn't she have to do the same for Trump? Got Kamala in trouble with SNL. Now being paid to show up and speak at a rally, yes that gives the implication that it's organic. Pay her travel, pay the hotel, pay the cab fare and food... Paying her the full speakers/appearance fee she typically charges is wrong.

Would love to see Oprah do a week in federal Martha Stewart prison for campaign finance crimes

Legally, Harpo Productions and Oprah are completely different entities.
So Harpo Productions could be paid for helping set up stage, sound system, cameras, and various other things. By handling it this way Oprah is not paid for her endorsement but she still makes money for her interview or appearances at fund raisers.

Same could be said for each of those celebrities and their production companies.

Stories like OP, the financial mismanagement of the D party, and the obvious bringing in of paid supporters for public events make me believe that it's a near certainty that we have had paid D posters on F16.

It'd be great to see the FEC clawing back undisclosed endorsement payments. It'd change the landscape significantly going forward and you'd see a bunch of celebrities souring on the Dems for screwing them!

What people fail to realize is that when you are rich enough you skirt rules quite easily. The same people who want to eat the rich don't realize how the rich play them so easily.

Those content creators aren't making political ads with Coca-Cola in the background.

to me the issue isn't that celebs took money, it's that Harris had to beg them and pay them to get the endorsements. That tells me she wasn't popular with anyone including her own base

Ok question...
What's the value placement? Yes there are tangible costs with setting up a TV interview, the production, and finally the distribution.

But built into the cost of those tangibles are the intangibles. The value that Oprah in this case brings to Harpo.

3002_htenneK couldn't charge $1 million for the same setup and interview. That production company doesn't have the reach and influence that Harpo has...

Not at all. I think you're missing the point. When democrats get in power, they funnel millions to documentary projects and grassroots organizations, republicans give zero. And then they wonder why they're behind on messaging.
