So much good stuff going on and I'm here for all of it. The meltdowns, the finger pointing, on and on. The Democratic factions are in open war with each other and it's going to be a blast to watch it, the coolest thing is it isn't even one group vs another, it's at least half a dozen groups fighting each other with lots of crossover. Thought it would be nice to have one place we could enjoy all of the mayhem as the Democrat Party implodes. A few to get it started.

Biden internal polling showed he was losing badly but he kept everyone out anyway and then sabotaged Harris:

So many of these groups hate each other or have been strong armed to stay in line and that's over now. There is no leader in the Dem Party now and even Obama is going to catch heat in this for propping up Biden and then Harris. This is just getting started because you are talking about a lot of mentally ill folks that think their feelings are the most important thing in the world and have been told that everyone needs to get in line.

Not all that dissimilar from Republican in-fighting when they were out of power.

Hopefully we don't let perfect get in the way of good, and get some good stuff done in the next two years with control of Congress and the WH.

They're going to have to either run someone like Whitmer or Shapiro or go big for a celebrity candidate like Michelle.

I don't think newsome is all that good of a candidate and they really don't have any standout congressman waiting in the wings

Republicans were fighting over whether they should go back to the establishment status quo or go along with maga.

Thankfully maga won and not because maga is the long term answer, but because establishment status quo is the equivalent of one step forward and two steps back.

Andy Beshear and Josh Shapiro are two of their best candidates, assuming the party is fine with a white guy at the top of the ticket, one of whom is also Jewish.

Newsom and Frau Whitmer might make a go at it, but they're definitely not their best options.

There are likely some Democrat senators and governors who are looking into it, and will be testing the waters in the next couple of years.

Just wondering... if it wasn't Biden, and shouldn't have been Harris, who else would the dems have nominated for president in 2024? All the other big names didn't want to do it.

And I agree on the dems having no leader. There's Obama and Pelosi, but they've both been weakened over this whole ordeal.

Yep, this happens every so often with both parties. Dems made the last couple transitions pretty bloodless (Hillary to Obama with Biden/Harris as a continuation of that, Bill Clinton from the old liberal establishment because Dems simply had grown tired of losing). This one is going to be more like the Neocon/MAGA fight but worse. Every leader in the Dem Party is tarnished or has people that hate them within their party. Probably the best hope is Shapiro but he isn't liberal enough for some and a solid 20% or so of Dems hate Jews and will never accept one as their leader.

If the GOP plays it smart they can pick off a lot of support here from working class folks, minorities, and among business minded college educated types and build a coalition in the 55+ percent range that will make them nearly impossible to beat.

I wonder if Shapiro said no to Kamala and not the other way around.

Along with that Favreau clip in another thread, it sounds like every single democrat knew that Kamala was going to get absolutely blasted by Trump -- and maybe any other democrat as well which is why Kamala had to pick the weirdest possible running mate.

Shapiro was wise to play the long game.

Knowing that Trump was going to win by a large margin, it was still despicable of the Democrats to try and call him a nazi, threat to democracy, etc, etc, etc the entire time.

I blame them for all of the histrionics of the left in the last week.

Forget about who the candidates might be in 2028. The question facing Dems right now is who can run the DNC effectively for 2026? Who can right the ship? Doesn't need to be a candidate yet, just needs to be a leader. Were I a Dem, I'd be asking McAuliffe to come back as DNC Chair. he's 67 so should have enough gas left in the tank to take control and triangulate back towards the center to regain working class voters.

I'm thinking the Democrats knew they were toast barring something unprecedented happening so they tossed Harris out there to take the loss. Not only did it mean not burning someone like Shapiro, but it rid the party of the cackling bimbo no one liked and no one wanted. Walz was the perfect choice if they had already decided to accept to loss and move on.

Republican in fighting was about whether or not to go back to the old (McCain, Romney types) from the new that they had just experienced (Trump). The Dems don't have a new right now. They are in desperate search for someone that can give them a vision for the future. Right now they are bickering over whose fault it is without any regards on how to move forward

Good grief. The only problem with the our party today is that we've now made any and all conspiracy theorists feel welcome.

I get the feeling that there are some who just really really want some kind of insurrection or civil war between parties to happen. Either that or they just hate the left so much that they need the satisfaction of seeing anyone that voted for the Dems suffer.

Even the Dems just want to move on. They screwed themselves by letting to many far left leaning folks move their party further left and they know if they want to win in the future they are going to have to swing back toward the middle.

Nothing on an even remotely large scale insurrection is going to happen. They didn't even try to select fake electors and claim massive fraud, they've just accepted the defeat.

We can dislike the Dems policies, but the desire to keep making everyone who votes democrat an enemy with nefarious intent isn't good for the country.

They're going to look to congress and governors for who to lead next, but they have several challenges.
Anyone who was in power - especially a governor like Newsome or Whitmer - during COVID is going to have their actions severely scrutinized. And those two governors in particular are going to have every instance where they demanded people do one thing while they did another thoroughly blasted out there.

Their big challenge, I think, is that they need to appeal to centrist / moderate / independent voters, but also have to keep their left wing base happy, which is no easy task when the social issues for those two sets of voters clash.

And with Trump coming in, their initial plan of getting a ton of immigrants naturalized in order to vote D is now trashed. I think too many of them were banking on that, as well as making PR and DC into new blue states.

I don't think Shapiro outright said no to Kamala; but, it's been widely reported that Shaprio grilled her pretty hard on her vision and what his role as VP was going to be. He was insisting on being an integral part of the process, rather than a simple tool to help her get elected then be cast aside.

Walz was much more subservient and had no conditions. That's why she chose him. He didn't threaten her.

Problem with that is the DNC has no real power anymore. The Dems gave their power to a batch of billionaires that fund all the GOTV operations and campaigns, many of which are in Big Tech as well as Soros. The only group within the Dem Party that has grown btw is Non Religious folks who are highly educated and make over $100k. That's great for money but it is going to create a larger and larger disconnect with the masses they need to get elected.

I'm telling you this is going to be a real war within the Democrat Party because there is no leader now, it's just a bunch of very angry groups lumped together with conflicting priorities. You are going to see a lot of these groups trying to pull everyone together but it won't work because they have built everything around feelings and being offended. It's literally impossible for these groups to avoid offending the hell out of each other and so they are going to end up fighting endlessly until someone finally emerges.

This is going to get a lot worse for them before it gets better.

I don't think that's what he is talking about. He's talking about how there is a radicalized portion of the Left with folks like what is behind Antifa and BLM that have become basically professional protestors. They live to protest and riot. Until they are shut down with force they are going to push the envelope. The only question is what happens with the funding from folks like Soros and if he continues.

This isn't about an actual war or certainly the majority of Dem voters but there are some serious nutjobs who have become accustomed to doing anything they want whenever they want.

Favreau did an interesting podcast in 2016 about the future of the Democratic Party. He doesn't know if it can exist anymore.

No, they don't. That's why we're seeing any and all excuses for Kamala's loss other than the truth... that she was an awful candidate running on continuation of awful, damaging policies for our country and the world.

Moving on? No. My neighbor is a perfect example. Rather than taking the L and moving on, she's busy putting up her Halloween headstones again in her yard with "Say her name" signs of the Propublica poster children of the day, complete with a Handmaid.

That doesn't sound like moving on to me.

Don't even begin to think this ends the democratic party.

I promise you that you could put a picture of my dog's butt on the top of the democrat ticket and my dog's butt would get 48% of the vote. They vote for the democrat machine and the woke agenda.

So you see it really doesn't matter who they choose it is just one A-hole or the other...48% of the vote.

Sure, but my point is that that is disconnected from the base the Dems need to actually win. Money only gets you so far as we were just shown again. You can't win with your base being nonreligious people with Post Grad Degrees making $100k plus. You need working class voters that make up the overwhelming majority of the electorate and nothing turns off the working class more than some rich or overeducated person that talks down to them and that is my point. Minority working class voters are disaffected with the Dems and at least listening to Trump and the GOP, many have already flipped. The more the Dems keep telling them that inflation isn't real and the economy is great while they should consider abortion as the most important issue they are going to continue to bleed votes to the folks talking about jobs and affordability and patriotism.
