*******.

Republicans are our own worst enemies.

I miss the days when we had actual stronger figures that could whip the members in line like the Democrats do , (with a few exceptions of course)

would prefer all this crap be resolved PRIOR to January 20th so we can hit the ground running and not waste weeks infighting as usual.

On top of the Senate leadership crap, the House is rumbling to start its own.

'It's a warning': Mike Johnson reportedly facing unexpected 'show of opposition' from GOP

Even as Republicans are increasingly optimistic that they'll keep control of the House, some conservatives remain wary of Mike Johnson and they're discussing how to telegraph their concerns in next week's secret leadership ballot," the report states. "With nearly two dozen races still outstanding, Johnson seems close to a major victory: Holding the tiny GOP majority, after a campaign season where he tied himself closely to Donald Trump and campaigned heavily for his at-risk members. Still, some House Republicans are mulling ways to signal their potential opposition to Johnson's bid on the secret ballot, according to two Republicans familiar with the discussions, who were granted anonymity to talk about private plans."

Johnson is widely expected to keep his position for now.

But a meeting on Wednesday will give fellow conservatives the opportunity to "field a candidate to run against him for the speaker nod," or they "may try to oppose him or vote present in the secret ballot," according to Politico.

"That won't be enough to derail his nomination, but it's a warning for Johnson ahead of the real test in January, when he'll need a majority vote on the House floor to take the gavel. If Republicans only take control of the House by a slim margin, as expected, that means Johnson will need near-unanimous support from his conference since he can't count on any Democratic votes," the report states. "Enter skeptical conservatives, who want concessions from Johnson on the rules governing the chamber and a plan to secure conservative wins in exchange for their votes. Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy faced similar demands two years ago, when it took him 15 ballots to get elected speaker on the House floor he ultimately had to make several changes to the rules that gave conservatives more power and severely weakened his hold on the conference."

Trump needs to really set the tone here. He won the popular vote. He won all. He needs to remind them of why they have majorities and it's his ****ing show to pick or at least king make leadership.

Hopefully this is where good Trump can smack the few R reps who want to play hardball and hold his platform hostage.

Ain't nobody got time for that.

Good. Johnson must go. The reason should be obvious.

The Rs have been waiting until they have complete control to cut spending. Let's see if they do it. I won't hold my breath.

Fair warning here.

Attention needs to be on the bottom up --- the consensus formed with the popular vote, the Rogans, the part of the black men vote, etc.

Do Not Depend on either the Republican Party or D.C. fixing much of anything. What Trump is going to able to do, as he did in 2017-2019 --- is jump start optimism and remove the obstacles to the productive part of America (which is not found in the media and government or schools) to getting things cracking again.

What needs to happen is more grass-roots and urban discussion among real people, with the understanding the priests of the Media must be ignored. Academia right behind. Revive Americanism, which never held massive federal power concentrated at the top in high regard or trust. We have let the Politico-Media-Academia "radicalization engine" turn us too much toward being like Western Europe.

The way to fight the division is to actively explore what are the actual issues and not the labels or past-causes some credentialed fool assigns them. And really doubling down on free speech absolutism and no erosion of the right of self-defense.

I think Mitch McConnell has been a masterful leader of the Senate Republicans, but at 82… come on man, it's time for a new generation.

Whatever it takes to get a Speaker that will fall in line and push the Trump agenda. If Johnson can't or won't toe the line then by all means, conservative Republicans need to fight to get the right person in the role.

If there is a battle for the Speaker's seat, it will be forgotton soon enough when the Democrat arrows start flying.

I agree. Trump is redefining the party. Less country club GOPers and more Main Street. I hope he gets this house in order quickly, b/c the GOP establishment is trash. Better than any D, but still trash.

Yes.

Put another way, and five-alarm fire warning here. The signs are already present. America can only heal itself from the citizen in the streets up, working class, middle class, upper class - everyone outside the "radicalization engine complex" . Washington D.C. and it MSM voices will be an obstacle to this effort, not a solution or cure.

Don't fall for it again. Nothing that depends on the insiders is likely to pan out. What you have to work on is what Trump did in October--- breaking down so effectively their narrative and showing how they are in a giant bubble of self-affirmation and enrichment, sowing division and non-solutions to expand power.

Exactly. The Cornyn, McCain, McConnell, Romney wing of the GOP is done! They can kick and scream all they want but it's done.

Trump flipped 20 counties in Cali from blue to red. That hadnt been done since Reagan. He was only 8 points down in NY. An 8 point deficit for an R in NY is unheard of. Biden won by 25!

Whether they like it or not, he is the King of that party now.

Not quite. If the GOP Congress decides to be obstructionist than only the voters and a letter deluge campaign on them can overcome it. With such a popular margin, you certainly have the current anti DC sentiment to do it.
