I saw the news that the a highly paid "leader" of DEI initiatives at a former company of mine got laid off. The company isn't doing well and they got rid of many people working on important projects but this guy managed to cling on. He was obviously paid well since his title was up there.

Now he is gone and I saw his post about this on Linkedin.

It seems like DEI has lost its charm and companies no longer care to virtue-signal to the gays and feminists anymore.

Or is this Trump effect?

While true, it's good to see companies getting rid of an executive over this function that literally does nothing but sow discontent and enable a toxic culture.

I'm glad to see that some companies are organically getting rid of it. I hate to see that we as a society still tollarate blanant discrimination as long as it's against the right group of people. If openly discriminating against women or a minority group gets you into legal trouble, then openly doscriminating against men or white people should as well.

The DEI non-sense was like the COVID tyranny non-sense. Both were unsustainable fads rooted in political rhetoric, that totally defied reality and common sense.

What's crazy to me is how many employees stayed quiet or looked the other way with totally ridiculous DEI training/programs being forced on them.

History won't judge the left well for it.

Companies have been quietly dumping the Equity from DEI since around January. But not because they thought DEI was wrong. Instead it was because some employees were expecting equity - money they did not earn. So it quietly morphed into D & I programs. The D was there for a long time, and doesn't 'inclusion' just sound so nice?

The HR industry is the corporate equivalent of the tenured professors in academia over the past 50 years.
It's an incredibly privileged class of people, because they have colonized the very departments which would be responsible for investigating and terminating, and in this electronic-application era (as opposed to when you could walk into a business and just talk with a manager and get hired in 24 hours) they often control the first-pass filter that determines what is a "sufficient" candidate pool before the process gets turned over to the hiring supervisor.

Since HR would have to be the ones to investigate and terminate HR departments run amok, HR has evolved into a sort of autoimmune infection. As long as it's in place, you can work hard to clear the bloodstream to undetectable levels, but the virus will always re-emerge from entrenched tissue reservoirs to reinfect the host's body..

I work for a Bay Area employer and get paid the TexAgs minimum wage so I kept my mouth shut when they rolled out the first plan after St Floyd in 2020.

We just had a managers call this week where corporate HR emphasized that DEI is here to stay.

I'm in pretty good shape because I've got a HBCU guy and a closeted Lesbian who report to me.

But the girl won't participate in any of the women stuff or any of the Pride stuff so I don't get any corporate social capital out of it.

Black dude also just wants to work. And as best as I can tell, I helped put an extra $50k/yr in his pocket so he's not playing any diversity BS.

Lots of publicly traded companies have DEI built into the executive compensation structure. At my old employer, top folks had annual bonus incentives for replacing white males with "diversity hires". One of the managers asked the hiring manager if we could look at the social media pages of prospective hires, because "sometimes you can't tell if they're gay when you interview them".

Yes, the company I am talking about is a publicly traded company. And the CEO (who recently got fired) would talk about DEI and LGBTQ stuff at any opportunity he got.

Can someone who knows more about this like HollywoodBQ tell us what exactly a VP of DEI does? The one in my previous company got fired this week but all I saw him do was set up company wife video meetings for 1 hour or maybe more where they brought gays in to talk about how much they were persecuted.

Do they do anything beyond that to justify getting paid $250k+?

No. It's a political, virtue signal department that exists solely because it's expected by enough shareholders that companies have to check the box to keep the left from whining.

Our DEI executive literally just did in-house speaking engagements to promote DEI ideals. There was literally no work output being done by her "department" other than putting out political propaganda.

I don't want anyone to lose their job, but being an expert in DEI makes you an expert in what exactly? She was with the company for 13 years so obviously she did other roles at the company besides DEI.. I'm curious what those rules were.

Anyone in DEI is typically not qualified to do anything else. Considering her tenure there it's likely that she was an under performer doing whatever it was she was doing before and was encouraged to go do DEI. In other words, some department was passing their trash.

Newer folks who actually have "degrees" in a blatantly racist subject area such as this are not worth a headcount spot, period.

I am still not clear what "I am a DEI expert" means. What exactly do these people do?
If someone says "I am a heart specialist", I can figure out what they do. If someone says "I am an AI expert", I know that he/she may develop AI models, train them, leverage them for business use cases, research them etc.

What does a DEI expert do? Tap into people's victimhood?

I think this woman has HR experience. That is a real job. She should take DEI off her thing and push her HR experience.

God I hope my company does away with it. Honestly, it blows my mind that they've gone so hard on DEI given that a HUGE portion of our company and employees live in countries that would actively despise most DEI initiatives (read: Islamic countries). Sure, they placate the hard-core leftists in the US and Europe, but alienate the US conservatives and the vast majority of the countries that actually PRODUCE the core product of our business. Makes no sense.
