The difference is in 2020 it was so much more difficult to extrapolate a sample size, because you didn't know the proportion of uncounted votes that were mail in v ED votes.

This round, republicans and democrats alike has very similar breakdowns of mail in v ED voting. The extrapolation should be much more consistent.

Remember exit polls, especially early exit polls, skew democrat. Don't take much from them right now. Final exit polls later this week will paint a better picture.
