I don't think a teaching stint in China in his 20s is necessarily disqualifying. Maybe it shows some sympathy for communism which would be more disqualifying, but you should be able to determine that based on his policies.

What was their surveillance state like in the 80's? Well, for one they were coming out of the Cultural Revolution. Millions died. Think mass killings. A period of time that also saw massive protests by younger Chinese, so any young American would be WAY on their radar.

This type of honey-trap/espionage goes back centuries. This is nothing new. I doesn't matter what "business" he was doing, he was an American in a Communist country sleeping with a CCP leaders daughter. THAT gets attention.

Not voting for the guy but this is a giant nothing. Plenty of real reasons he shouldn't be in office but this doesn't register in the top 10 or 20 of them.

As a junior enlisted guardsman, he probably didn't have clearance so I'm not sure what he'd be expected to report

Bad judgment is when a 25 yo decent looking American white man lives in Asia, Africa, Latin America, southern Europe, or any other region where white worship is prevalent and NOT hook up with the local hotties. It took me 24 hours on Bumble in a diverse US city to realize this. I can't imagine the exhaustion I'd experience as a 25 yo in Asia.

Wildest part about all this is theres a 60-year old Chinese woman out there who's greatest accomplishment in life may well be having sex with Tim Walz.
