Just found out the one of the great former leaders on campus is interested in the Commandant position and this is a guy that we can all get behind.

Colonel Stephen G. Ruth is a member of the Angleton High School Class of 1988 and the Texas A&M Class of 1992, where he served as Student Body President. Col Ruth is a former Assistant Professor of Leadership at West Point, former Commandant of the West Point Prep School, and a Harvard Kennedy School Fellow. He currently serves as the Director of Task Force SORD (Strategic Officer Recruiting Detachment) in College Station to provide Army ROTC Scholarships talented youth from diverse backgrounds

He knows and loves the Corps of Cadets for what it is. A leadership laboratory.
He won't try to change it into the US Military Academy. He will fix what needs fixing without ruining the experience for the D&C cadets.

He has experience. He was commandant of the US Military Academy Prep School. He has multiple tours of duty in Iraq, Afghanistan, Macedonia and Bosnia.

Here is a short intro video about who Stephen Ruth is and what he has accomplished.

We have had enough with the outsiders and Generals who have lost touch with the Texas A&M.

Stephen Ruth is at march-ins and around College Station on a regular basis, he knows what it is to be an Aggie, what the Corps means to Texas A&M, and how to lead by example.

I have never met anyone who had anything negative to say about the man.

(Thanks to whomever pointed out the Youtube embed did not show Col Ruth. Adding a picture for those that might remember him in early 90s at A&M)

Well, I don't know how anyone can be 100% sure of anything.

But he is someone who is as plugged in, knows what has been happening, and has not be on board with it.

He isn't too stubborn to listen to the Corps Advisory board and the CCA, etc who have nothing but the best interest of the Corps in mind.

Stephen is a stud. Fellow cadet in the early 90's and just saw him a few weekends ago pre-game.

He would do right by the Corps.

Just let me point out that the white guy on the blurb above is not Col. Ruth. However, the video is about the actual Col. Ruth.

I have met Col. Ruth. I was getting out of my truck (back window was plastered with Corps of Cadets decals) in front of my son's house one Thanksgiving and a guy came up from behind me and introduced himself.

It was Col. Ruth, whose brother (very nice man) lives across the street from my son. Col. Ruth had seen the Corps decals and wanted to meet me.

We chatted for a bit. Nice man, impressive fellow.

That's all I know about him.

I think A&M likes to hire general-level people for this position, but what do I know.

I've known him since my New Student Conference in 1988.
I'm a huge fan and I think he has the skills and credentials to do very well in this role.

To your comment though, no doubt if he took the job there would be conspiracy theorists coming out of the woodwork to make unfounded claims about him too. I'm sure those claims would include some sort of secret agenda.

It's true we normally choose Generals, and it hasn't worked out well in recent years. I fully support Stephen Ruth. He'd make the perfect Commandant

Well, you can never make everyone happy, and I am not sure what unfounded claims were made about Michaelis, if that is what you are referring to.

Not sure what the conspiracy theorist believed that wasn't true either. If you go back on the thread about him getting fired, you will see the President of the Rudder Assoc confirmed that he was let go to a series of mis-steps including gender neutral bathrooms (got axed), Fish Academy, and the hit job on Squadron 17 in the spring. All three were information that was given here before released to public and was 100% true.

Michaelis was pretty much left alone (both on here and with most Corps parents/groups) until he decided to make wholesale changes to the Corps without informing anyone and then when it was pushed back on, he lied about it and said it wasn't a done-deal, but just an idea, which was a complete lie. Cadets and parents had heard rumors for months, but no one thought it would actually go through. There was no pushback until Fish Academy and his plan to pull all fish out of the outfits the first semester.

I never trusted the guy based on some comments from a friend who knew him when they were in the Corps together and he was super excited about the hire. I started hearing some things the first fall that I wasn't crazy about, but kept things to myself and a few family members.

I always thought Fish Academy would get killed by the Corps Advisory board or that the cadets would voice displeasure with not having fish in the outfits and he would change his mind. Little did I know, he wouldn't listen to anyone but his YES-MEN who work for him.

To me it was kind of like the Mark Stoops deal. Looch dropped hints he was a serious candidate for several days, and we all figured it was due diligence or a smoke screen. Not until the 11th hour did SHTF when everyone realized Stoops was the hire and then everyone realized Bjork was an idiot and over-ruled him.

I was one of his fish in D2 and would vouch for him every day of the week and twice on Sunday. One of the most charismatic and honorable man I have ever met. The Corps would be in "outstanding" (he liked to say that about everything and everyone) hands under his leadership.

Haven't really kept up with the corps since I got out in '04. Our senior year our class got split up among different outfits. I heard my old outfit went frog and integrated sometime down the road. No idea on the general state of things today.

some people care so much for the Aggie Corps they are willing to make that sacrifice. Ruth is that kind of man.

I went to HS with a Stephen Ruth and we were both at A&M at the same time as this guy. When Ruth was running for SBP my HS friend would come home and his answering machine was full of hate messages because people thought he was the one running for Pres. Were the SBP elections that contentious?

Of course there will always be people who don't like a Commandant but the last two have been egregiously bad.

Tyson would be excellent as well, but he is in a very important position already. Not sure he would make that move, although he would excel if that is what he decided he wanted to do.

Didn't he resign from the army as a Captain? I'm all about re-looking the general officer precedent, but some military seniority is probably valuable and necessary.

I am not sure about that. His bio on 12th man says he continues his service as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve.

I am not advocating for Tyson, I just think he would do well at Commandant as well, I was responding to lb3.

I definitely think we need to look at some others besides just Generals, as our success there has been spotty.

I also personally believe that is should be a former Texas A&M cadet, since the Corps is so different from almost every ROTC in existence, but I am sure others would disagree with that take.
