Last month my wife and I were on a cruise to the Eastern Canadian provinces. One day the ship docked in Halifax, Nova Scotia. While we were walking along the boardwalk I saw a woman walking her Welsh Corgi. Of course I did the stupid thing and stopped to pet the dog. Next thing you know she finds out we're from the United States and brings up politics...and asks who we're voting for. I bit my lip but my wife took the bait. The lady has a fit and begins to tell us our guy is a terrible human being who has abused women. I tell her I fear for the safety of my grandkids who live two hours from the border where the current administration has let in over 12 million unvetted people. She continues her rant. I then tell her our economy is a mess under the current administration and people are struggling financially. It did no good so I finally tell her to have a nice day and walked away.

I replied that I can't believe you are supporting someone who slept her way to the top and has the IQ of driftwood. 3. This response shows how insecure you are. Who cares if some woman gives you grief. She isn't a threat. Make your points and move on with life. If she follows and harrasses that is a different story.

Apparently you're insecure if you stand up for yourself when you're being intimidated for simply existing.

Such a tough guy.

If you can't intellectually outwit a Harris supporter then that says more about you then her.

When you have reason and truth on your side you merely discredit that logical advantage by offering physical violence especially when there was no threat made.

I have, so? Pretty sure the 40+ slurs, curse words, and threats of violence while may be considered "fighting words" which would not be protected under free speech. Also the guy shouldn't be sitting on another man's property enough such that the car alarm goes off. Didn't need to come to threats of violence, gay slurs, curse words directed at a person. But when the man sitting on the car was surrounded he punched the person who was continuously threatening him with violence

Pretty much the same reaction I got from my next door neighbor when I asked her to help me understand why she thought Trump LITERALLY wanted to kill her.

In the same tone of voice as this sweet lady, she screamed that she now considered me every bit of the same threat against her as Trump for simply asking her that question.

If you live where I live , I'm surprised this hasn't happened to you if you wear anything Trump. That said, you absolutely could tell that the husband has been through this more than once by the look on his face as she started it. Obviously I had no intention of just punching the guy but I just considered this would end the conversation and I was right. I'm not a small fellow so usually words can defuse most confrontations.

Another quick story, when I was in line on Monday to vote, the guy standing next to me was definitely voting blue but we had a grand time talking about everything but politics for the entire 45 minute wait. I'm too old to look for fights but I damn sure not going take any bs from some lib.

So you threatened to beat someone else up because someone different verbally argued with you?

I don't see anything wrong with it. Liberals need to STFU and stop thinking its ok to go up to someone and verbally harass them.

Correction you don't see anything wrong with it because it would be your "Side" doing the ass kicking. As long as you agree with the point of view physical assault is ok in your book whereas it would not be ok if it was your side being assaulted. And "kicking the ass" of a person that didn't say anything is ok with you?
It's really very simple. Invade my personal space and verbally harass me, lose some teeth. I really don't care about your politics at that point.
Physically assaulting someone who is engaging you only verbally will usually end up with the assaulter going to court, jail, or both, cost you a lot of money, and becoming a permanent part of the criminal justice system. It is NOT worth it just so you can say 'Well I guess I showed him!' The prosecutor would LOVE to make an example of a stone cold killer Marine who has no/little self control.

I suggest a different approach; Say to this person "If I can prove to you empirically that our country was far better off under Trump than Biden/Harris, would you be willing to change your mind?" If they say yes, then show them. If they say NO, then I'd tell them that they have been fooled and it's kind of sad that they won't acknowledge facts instead of feelings, and just walk away. They aren't worth your time.

You are quite angry.
1. The woman wouldn't walk all over me because I know how to engage in debates in an effective manner.
2. The poster likely is looking for interactions like that. So he got what he wanted.
3. It is not healthy for politicial discourse to result in physical threats. If you find that happening, something is likely wrong with you.

How exactly am I angry? I just don't take people threatening and intimidating me lightly. These kinds of things didn't happen 20 years ago, because people actually respected one another.

And again, you don't engage in debates with someone who is unhinged. The fact a person feels compelled to confront someone they don't even know proves that they are unhinged. I mean, who the **** does that? Not a sane person.

If someone confronts me while I am minding my own business, I am going to assume they have hostile intentions and I will respond in kind.

I can't believe there are people who believe either major candidate is some sort of "moral high ground" as a person. Now, if we start examining their positions on a plethora of societal issues, as well as who (or what organization) jumps to support the candidates based on those societal issues, the choice becomes clear.

For crying out loud, one wants to sterilize mentally ill children while her running mate signed a bill that would allow abortions up until birth. That's some real "high ground" to die on.

This. It is quite easy to show how the most important thing in our lives (the economy) has been better under trump over a Biden/Harris one. Threatening with violence will never win your argument and had he followed through with that threat would have resulted in a day of court for the one physically assaulting the person that was not verbally threatening (much less physically) the physical assaulter.

The person threatening with physical violence over a political disagreement is THE definition of political intimidation.

Nobody has a right to come up to you and get in your personal space. If someone came up to me unsolicited and started going off about who I'm voting for, I am going to assume that they are crazy and will look to diffuse the situation.

I'm not saying popping off and throwing punches immediately is the best course of action. That being said, merely threatening to them that you will stand your ground is usually enough to diffuse the situation.

Serious question, if some random person came up to you and started going off on you, would you not assume the person is mentally unstable?

Given that, I think threatening violence and that you will stand your ground is a perfectly acceptable response.

Why? Because sane people don't verbally assault random people.

I don't see how this is such a weird response to some of you people. NOBODY has a right to get in my face and confront me. I don't know the person's motives, if they have a weapon and/or intend to do harm. I don't know them from Adam. He said a woman and her husband were next to him in a store. So to me that means they were shopping in the same area or they were line checking out. There was NO indication she "came up to him" and got in his physical space as you stated. She started expressing herself after seeing him express himself politically. And he engaged back. During that exchange he never indicated she was threatening him and/or using fighting words, in his personal space within the store, impeding his ability to move or express himself politically (even though it was within the confines of a private business). All he said was she was next to him, started a conversation that he engaged in for a few minutes which was ended by him saying if she said one more word that he would physically assault her husband (which based on the story had not engaged in the political exchange between the woman and Danny)

What ground did he need to defend. She wasn't pushing him out physically, nor did she make physical contact with him or made threats to committing physical violence. she was challenging his political speech (the hat) with her own political speech.

Did she make contact with him? How did she verbally assault him.

Texas Penal Code, Title 5, Section 22.01
ASSAULT. (a) A person commits an offense if the person:
(2) intentionally or knowingly threatens another with imminent bodily injury, including the person's spouse;

Did she do that to him? It seems from his own testimony that HE committed this offense. (I understand he could live in a different state and thus the Texas penal code does not apply but many other states have similar statutes)
