Proud dad moment last night:

My 17 year old got home in the middle of the debate and sat down to watch with my wife and I for a while because he's seen JD Vance a few times on his tiktok or insta reels and likes him. When Jan 6 came up in the debate, he asked, "what's January 6th?".
And then everybody stoop up and clapped

My personal take is that the horrible moderators focused on gotcha topics and didn't spend enough time on what really matters (energy, foreign wars) and deeper policy. I was happy with Vance but wish the mods were not such bitter hags.

At this point I don't give a s about Jan 6, day care, climate or abortion as it relates to the election.
Pretty much this and although I can see the abortion question being asked as its relevant to a lot of the electorate, they spent far too much time on it, seemed like it was twice the amount of time on it as there was on the border question.

J6 stuff takes the cake for irrelevancy to many people or a question that people have simply made up their minds about. But its a weak spot for Trump so they wanted to finish the debate with it. I wish Vance would have simply said, "Regardless of how you or I feel about who won, Trump handed over power on Jan 23rd and hasn't been in office these last 4 years, meanwhile Kamala has and she has ****ed it all up."

Vance navigated it like a pro despite the questions and the way they were framed to constantly put him on the defensive of Trump. I noticed they didn't really ask Walz to defend any of Kamala's positions really. They did corner him a bit on the Tianamen Sq thing and he fumbled it badly on the one time he was really pressed.

On J26, I wish the Republicans would take a more aggressive stance and say the bigger threat to democracy is the Harris replacement of Biden on the ticket despite the primaries. That's what a real coup looks like.

Anyone who is old enough with half a brain can tell you where they were when Tiananmen Square went down.

I was in the labor/delivery room with my wife as our 2nd daughter was born. I remember telling my wife we'll always remember this day and where we were.

Walz is either a liar or is blatantly incompetent. .
I don't remember exactly where I was. But if I could certainly tell you whether or not I was in Hong Kong at the time. I wasn't.

the threat to democracy is socialism/communism and the cabal of Marxists who have usurped today's democrat party is taking us there on a fast track. but as Karl Marx and Josheph Goebbels said, always accuse your enemies of what you are doing.

i think if you cared about "democracy" you'd have primary elections

i think if you cared about "democracy" you wouldn't need to have social media censor news about your candidate or have your state run pravda media arm spread lies about that news

i think if you cared about "democracy" you wouldn't need to try to put your political opposition in prison or remove them from ballots. you should be able to sway the people with good policies and results.

i think if you cared about "democracy" you wouldn't need to fight tooth and nail against anti-fraud controls in the election processes and systems

i think if you cared about "democracy" and the will of the people, you would be persuading with good policies instead of scheming for eternal one-party power by adding DC and PR as states for eternal senate power, expanding and packing the SCOTUS to legislate from the bench, importing millions and millions of asylum seekers and changing the definition of asylum to "wants free stuff" with "paths to amnesty" for house seats and permanent one-party rule flipping states.

the unarmed mob who fired zero shots and killed a grand total of zero cops on 1/6/2021 was no threat to democracy. it was infiltrated, instigated, and it's being used to shut down opposition to an anti-democratic regime. nothing more.

Vance was awesome when he told the moderators off. He forced the American voter to see how biased they are. One of the greatest moments I've watched in a debate, aside from "Because you'd be in jail."
Yep. You could tell they were pissed on multiple levels.

The one place I thought Vance missed a layup is when they insisted they he had no basis for claiming illegals drive up home prices. He should've let them have it again with something like "anyone who knows the basics of economics knows that adding demand in the form of 20M illegals will drive up prices unless supply increases proportionally." I think they hit him 3 times on that one and I wish we'd seen a repeat of this moment.

well, no, but I was surprised he knew one of the guys on the TV, wife and I were proven right about how little jan 6 really means, and we went on to talk about our guy Vivek. Son sees him on social media too. also surprising.

wow. thanks for posting...

...but Kamala and Walz will continue to use Ambur Thurmon's name over and over again on the campaign trail to trick people into voting for the continuation of the Marxist regime because of "healthcare" "rights".

I thought Vance did fine but he was still arguing from within the liberal dictated framework.

When it came to economic topics he basically conceded that the government was going to still provide healthcare and that we would continue handouts. This included housing and tax credits to people that already are not paying taxes.

He should have said we are not paying for this shlte. Housing and healthcare are not a right enshrined in our constitution. If you want it, pay for it!

It ain't what the mushy middle wants to hear.

Trump has his base, Vance is going after the idiots who don't pay attention.

I understand the strategy behind what he said and why he said it.

But the fact that it was necessary rather than speaking the plain truth means this is over. The founders and us lost the war of ideas. Liberals have won so hard they can't even govern anymore. The crazies now control their agenda.

The only thing left is the hard reset.

I think we've been done for a while now. The federal government can print money but it doesn't make anything and doesn't create wealth. It's like a tick on a hound. It lives off of sucking the people's wealth from them. Using 2022 numbers the GDP was $25.44T and federal spending was $6.13T. (This doesn't even include the national debt.) That means the tick is about a quarter of the size of the dog. No dog survives that and I'm not sure we do either.

Don't mean to be a downer but it really doesn't look good.

Strongly suspect that this the reason that Vance didn't address the issue of increased housing costs being caused in part by 20 million illegals with the simple supply/demand explanation. Voters Vance are trying to reach either already know or wouldn't understand that the government doesn't have control over housing prices. Neither group would want to hear the truth and might even be offended by it.

I thought that beforehand but I think his answer on 1st amendment and attack on freedom speech with Democrats / big tech squelching alternate view points was the best answer.

None of the takes on here are surprising either way. Nor do they matter, other than for the sake of discussion.

It was just relieving to see two candidates with widely differing positions debate each other in a way that was almost entirely civil and respectful.
