Call your shot. I believe Powell wants to help Harris get elected, so I call 1/2 a point reduction, heck maybe 3/4.

Jerome Powell is Trump's appointee. But either way, I don't think that affects the decision. I think it's 25 basis points.

25 seems to be what most "experts" are expecting.

Guess we'll see if the experts get one right for a change.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Elections are when people find out what politicians stand for, and politicians find out what people will fall for.

Any rate cut means it is purely political. Inflation is still very strong

The job market is softening. That's the other half of the Fed's mandate, and the one they're paying closer attention to.

Don't you know? "iNfLaTIoN iS dOwN, ComRAdE!"

They clearly printed way too much and still have a ton of pain to spread over the next few years, but I would agree with the prediction that they'll make a politically symbolic cut between .125 & .50 under the excuse that recent less bad inflation rates indicates health from Dem/Swamp economic malfeasance.

He want's to keep dry powder for larger cuts down the line when the economy really starts to roll over in the fall.

It's a tricky issue. I think there is still some inflation, but also there a lot of people out of jobs and companies aren't hiring. Most capital has been in gridlock.

I think we see rates up and down over the next few years as they try to balance it all.

The banks need liquidity and people that hold or invest in real estate are looking to rates to decide when to buy. When transactions happen it will churn assets which will sort of reset everyone in that market.

No. It isn't. Inflation is a 12 month calculation.

Is a cut a good thing or bad thing for the average citizen? If good, how would it affect the average citizen? If bad, the same question.

Depends on the perspective. It's bad for savers. It's good for buying on credit because it lowers the cost of borrowing.

mixed bag. In general, lower interest rates help borrowers which the vast majority of Americans (and companies) are. Higher rates help savers...which very few Americans are.

Futures are pricing in a 60% chance the Fed cuts by 50 basis points. This is up from just 15% odds a week ago.

Historically rates are NOT high. The problem is both individuals and banks have become spoiled by ultra low interest rates.

Money isn't free and instant but it now gratification isn't good.

I want a 0.50% cut as there will be a reactionary market bump and I got a few positions to unload.

History shows markets will enjoy a quick sugar high and pump higher THEN come crashing down.

Up for a couple weeks/months then down 20-25% (a much needed correction)
