When people are hungry, they'll eat pretty much anything. The eating of animals that are pets to us isn't uncommon in many countries.

I'd have thought this was common knowledge thanks to social media and the Food Channel. Guess it isn't.

When I lived in Bogota, Colombia (not a third world country) I never once saw a stray dog or cat. In fact the only dogs that I ever saw were purebreds, as pets were considered luxury items that were popularized during COVID.

During my trips to India, I was really surprised at the number of stray dogs. They're everywhere.

Obviously free ranging cows are everywhere too but the number of dogs really surprised me.

I'm not concerned with their juvenile schoolyard behavior. At best, the cat/goose Haitian allegations are unproven, not false. There's actually evidence out there that is being ignored. This has happened before.

This rings suspiciously like the antivax or Hunter laptop "hoaxes". They're conspiracy theories... Until they're not.

We're just a few days into this, with no true fact checking by the media and no desire to dig into it. The truth will ultimately come out, and if true, I'm betting sooner than later. Interesting that your office mates are so intent on spiking the ball on an unproven allegation, and so willing to ignore the outright falshoods of "bloodbath" and "good people on both sides" that have been 100% debunked as lies.
