be wary of tipping at large venues, the service staff is already getting screwed when the venue takes their cut of "tips". Seen it happen first hand.

No, it would not change my level of tipping. Pretty sure no one factors taxes into their tipping calcs.

Tips will go down as a revolt to the button on the card reading machine. Almost every place has them now. I used to feel guilty about not tipping there, but I don't now.

I do think there will be unintended consequences.

Why "pay" the yard man. Just have a recommended "tip" for everyone on the crew (thinking the bigger above the table services). Same for the AC repair man. Pay a small service fee but tip the technician. Barbers and stylists? Drop commissions from the salon/shop owner and just work for tips.

The list could go on and on...

I already tip less because of inflation. It's now 15% max unless it is outstanding service.

I suspect if a law removing taxes on tips goes through this will only encourage more employers to shift workers who a currently paid a normal hourly wage to one whose pay is based on tips. Which means the average person is going to find themselves being asked to tip for products and services for which tipping was not previously common.

Why would my wage be taxed but a service worker's not?

This was said to gain support in Nevada but seems likely to have unintended consequences.

Yep.

Have either of these geniuses recommending it said what they'd do to prevent regular pay from being moved to tips to game the system?

That's called under reporting of income and will get flagged by the IRS.

Free car washes with "recommended tip" already exist and you think nobody is going to reduce their taxable income in favor of tips.

Ok.

Did someone bring my food to my table and refill my drinks as often as needed. If so, they get tipped, just they always have long before machines had a prompt on them.

If the prompt to top is at Chipotle or Starbucks or any other fast casual place, then no tip, the same way I don't tip the cashier at Whataburger or Five Guys.

I'm pissed that Trump is pandering for votes.

Tips are income. If I owe taxes on my income, so do you.

I only tip three groups of people regularly…waiters/waitresses, food delivery drivers, and people who cut my hair.

My simple rule on tipping is - if I'm standing up when ordering my food, you're not getting a tip. Used to feel a little bad about it, but those days are long gone.

I feel this. Yesterday, I took the family out for cheeseburgers after church to celebrate my oldest's birthday. For a family of five, it was $62 and we got waters and shared two orders of fries. Then that screen has the option to pay a tip. For what, exactly? The guy took my order and punched it in the machine. I already feel like I'm getting ripped off. Why would I voluntarily get ripped off more?

Why would I tip less? I tip in accordance with what I value the tipee's service. Their tax bill on those tips does not factor in.
