chicago is a third world city.

I can go to great museums and eat at great restaurants in baghdad, mexico city or a multitude of other world cities. But if I turn into the wrong neighborhood I could end up dead. Every urban city has these areas, but when a city has as large of these areas as chicago does, it's third world. And throw in the local govt corruption....
I was just there 3-weeks ago. Walked all over. Never once felt unsafe. Obviously didn't go to the south side but most of the city is just fine.

You didn't walk all over. Skipped the west side too. Again, I can walk "all" over in any third world city and not feel unsafe. Most of those cities are fine too.

I spent alot of time patrolling in southeast DC. Daytime I could walk around there and it's definitely third word. Felt exactly like a patrol in iraq or afghanistan. What 99.9% of people don't notice is what's really going on, that only the locals know.

USMC started a program in the mid 2000s to teach Marines how to better recognize the danger they had been missing. They used inner city Marines to help develop the program.

How many people are carjacked or robbed or assaulted, that felt safe, right up to the point where they weren't?

Police don't stop crime insomuch as manage it. They keep the criminals deterred from tourist areas and "nice" areas where well to do people frequent. That's why everyone freaks out when a shooting happens in a nice part of DC, but no one cares when it's a daily occurrence in the poor part of town.

I doubt they're turning down all that overtime because of the long hours.

After the blm riots, most of these cops know how bad working a riot is. Not worth the risk of getting hurt, having bottles and bricks and urine and unknown chemicals thrown at you for hours on end. Maybe you end up arrested for using legal use of force.

It is a very bad experience for one day, but a week? Not worth the money.

Brother this is the "squad" wing of the Democratic Party. These aren't republicans out protesting the democrats. This is Rashida Tlaib, AOC and Omar and their "no Justice and no peace" stance on the Middle East.

I dont know how you can think that this is an outside force rather than an internecine struggle
