The Olympics should get rid of at least half of the current events. Change my mind.
Why? Did you waste your time watching the events you disliked?
No, I barely watched anything because every time I turned it on it was some idiotic "sport" that most people had never heard of. When you water something down it loses value.

So you barely watched it but these sports watered the Olympics down and they kept you from watching?

I just watched T&F and women's soccer and badminton didn't come to mind at all when I watched those events.

I enjoy it. My wife is an olympics junkie, and I find human excellence interesting and compelling.

The 90s movies still have a chance at predicting the future. Bring on PCU with the protests and the ultimate Frisbee!
(...Or did they already try to get ultimate Frisbee in? ...I stopped with olympic stupidity a long time ago. I love athletic excellence but I won't respect the political correctness around the olympics)

Yes, and the MLB teams hated it because they don't want to put their players at risk when they're in the middle of a pennant race.

Yeah, I didn't watch a single minute of the Olympics other than a few short clips. Saw clips of the opening ceremonies & that was enough for me.

Used to watch the Olympics every day. Got so excited they were coming up and was engaged with our athletes. I remember actually caring about the medal count. Some of the events know are just ridiculous. Surfing? Breakdancing? Slalom canoe? Trampolining? K.

If you have fewer sports the ones that remain mean more and get more attention.

You must not Peacock. We don't have one channel covering the Olympics anymore. You can literally choose which event you watch and they have a feed.

You'd would have loved the mixed architecture, town planning, literature, and mixed music events of the early Olympics.

Nobody was thinking about trampoline while the 100m was being run. Just admit you have a bad take.

I'm sure there is a can of cheap beer and some nfl preseason y'all can follow after the games.

Why do y'all have a problem with the Olympics? They are a great distraction from the summer heat and the memes are fun.

(Sure, some events are silly, but who cares?)

Ping Pong is a real sport according to the stupid definition touted here two weeks ago that only events that use objective scoring are suited for the Olympics.
15 years ago some colleagues and I constructed a matrix that tried to define what is and isn't a sport and it was really hard to draw a line. What we came up with eventually is tiers of sports from 1 to 4. The major criteria defining level of sport were in no particular order: level of physical athleticism required, level of technical skill, team dynamics, physical contact with opponents, objective scoring, and element of defense (for example in golf or a race you don't directly hinder your opponent from doing what they want).

Tier 1 was your typical sports like basketball, football, and rugby.
Tier 2 was sports that met most criteria but lacked one or more (baseball, tennis, boxing, mma).
Tier 3 was races and field competitions including track and swimming.
Tier 4 was talent shows (cheerleading, gymnastics, figure skating and the like)
Tier 5 was parlor games (pool, ping pong, cornhole, etc…)

Kenneth_2003

So bowling, that still gets time in ESPN, is tier 5

What about sailing? Even the solo events have huge onshore crews.

Sounds like a fascinating matrix.

So, the USA dominates in the overall medal count. Tied with China with 40 Gold medals each. I'm sure China will tout how they dominated the games with 40 Gold Medal's. But, 5 of China's Gold medals came from Ping Pong. Go figure…

Is Ping Pong a real sport? Why not make other "table games" like billiards or air hockey an Olympic sport while we are at it? Heck, let's get Corn Hole and Beer Pong added too. Geez…

China has 1.442+ billion people. We have about 333 million. China should be disgraced even ashamed that they aren't outdistancing us in the medal count.

They weren't as bizarre. Very creative. But if the US side of the ceremonies (all Hollywood and LA is "the cultural center of the world" and Snoop) was any indication of what the 2028 Olympics will look like, we'll be the laughing stock of the world.

I hated the drag queen in the opening ceremony and how "intersex" female boxers, but I still watched some of the Olympics I am glad the US dominated with 126 medals, 35 more than the next highest total of 91 from China. The LA 2028 Olympics will add five new sports: Flag Football, Cricket, Lacrosse, Squash, and Baseball and Softball.

Watched most of it between around 8 channels and really enjoyed it and props to France for the production and safety aspects. There were some competitions that didn't bring my interests but overall I think it was one of the best Olympics in a long time. The embraced part is that it took focus away from two weeks of dog days August before football begins.
