For yall that love to claim "do the research ", have any of you actually looked this up?
It's a modernization of their existing login system (which I take to be similar to our own login.gov or id.me) that people use to access federal services.
https://www.aap.com.au/factcheck/no-you-wont-need-a-digital-id-to-access-social-media-from-july-1/
In 2026, they may roll it out as an option for other sites similar to how you log into maybe websites using you Facebook, Google or Apple ID. But again, that's strictly optional. And that doesn't mean tracking - only authentication. That's not how keystones work.
Social media is not explicitly part of the bill and neither is compulsion.
The only area where compulsory id is being discussed is in age verification for porn sites, but that is still in the works and completely separate from this legislation.

A voluntary, national digital ID scheme is due to commence at the end of 2024. Initially, it can be used for government services, with the potential for private companies to become involved from 2026 onwards.

Australians will soon need to submit an ID in order to access the Internet and the police must have access to their social media usage. pic.twitter.com/rNZMD31lBI
It would be "optional" up front, but we know where that eventually leads once implemented.

Probably won't help because they can just cut off physical access to addresses through internet companies. No government license, no one will give you service.
Queenslanders are similar to Texans. They even call rural parts "The Deep North".ttu_85 said:Interesting, and yet people say they are more like Texans than Americans. For the OP, Aussies don't mind nudity, sex, etc. But they're petrified by violence.
For their ratings on movies and video games, sex and such is OK from age 15 but you have to be 18+ for violent content - think "Call of Duty".
As far as the Australian government monitoring content.
They've been doing that for 15+ years that I'm aware of.
And since they are Prisoners of Mother England, they don't enjoy the freedoms guaranteed in the US Constitution, especially:
1 - Freedom of Speech
2 - Right to Keep and Bear
4 - Unreasonable Search and Seizure
5 - Self Incrimination
6 - Speedy Trial, Jury of your peers
Just to name a few.
As a parent of 1 late Millennial and 1 Zoomer educated in the Australian system, I can tell you that every 10 year old kid in Australia knows how to create a social media account and start cyber bullying their peers.
The Aussies go harder on cyberbullying than they do real bullying.
And given the Australians love of speed cameras and "dobbing in" their neighbours, I don't think there's really anything to see here. The vast majority of Aussies will probably be fine with this.
Remember, they're not Americans. They don't have the same values we do, or Constitutional rights that we enjoy.
The entire Australian economy is propped up by selling Iron Ore, Coal and low grade Uranium to China.YouBet said:
The problem is that the more common 1984 becomes in other western countries the more normalized it gets. US Democrats want all the same crap here.
No idea what happened with Australia since it seemingly used to be this rugged, individualist type society. Makes me wonder if being in the vicinity of China and beholden to China for a decent portion of their economy and has resulted in this. Context of that is that last time I looked China was purchasing and responsible for much of Australia's government revenue via export of raw materials.

How are politicians going to protect themselves from CBDC?fasthorse05 said:It's gonna be a LOT worst than that.Just an Ag said:
This is one of the scariest things I've read in a long time. No joke. <thumbs down>
That's just the first move. Once you get CBDC, then they'll also know every single thing you buy, where you buy it, and if you speak "improper" words to anyone, or online, then you may find you may not be able to buy groceries, or basically anything our lords and savior inside the beltway don't want you to say.
Yes, CBDC will possibly wipe out the underground, black, economy, but you'll lose your freedom and liberty in the process. And man, will it be sold to the American sheep.

so we will be forced to search out non-commercial VPN options. - run our own, overseas, etc.

The Australian government has not passed, nor have even discussed, any such legislation. Try a little research before posting total untruths.

I highly recommend everyone check it out, because it's 100% truth. Right now, 50% of our country is rooting for the resistance in the Matrix, Star Wars, Divergent, and V for Vendetta.Quote:— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 10, 2024
