Many US airports have this now as you go through the security checkpoint AFAIK. They don't need your boarding pass anymore if you have ID.

they know who you are and who you are related to and likely who you do business with and much more.

TSA takes your picture now…they claim they don't keep a copy

Last year they eye scanned me, looked at my documents and then asked me for further proof of identification by asking my middle brothers birthday.

Luckily I knew it. There is 9 of is and I don't know all the exact birthdays.

But the whole experience was creepy af.

I'm well aware of this just pointing out you can still opt out of the face scanner TSA uses at the airport.

I respectfully declined the picture at IAH Customs upon my return from a three week trip to Europe. The TSA agent had an absolute fit. Asked me why I declined. Asked me why I thought I was better than everyone else. Refused to let me through and made me go to the back of the line; I called him a **********, went to another line and got through.

As far as that airport in Abu Dhabi, I was there after it first opened and it's beautiful. Made me think how if we actually spent money on our own country we could have nice things too.

WalMart's been using facial recognition for 15+ years. They know who you are, what you will buy, how long you'll be in the store and how much money you'll spend when you walk in the door.

Do you social media or use an internet device with a camera and apps? You do this to yourself all the time. The governments need only buy it if they want it. Sure, a lot of it is theoretically anonymized but good cross referencing with a good AI and they can build a pretty good record of you and recognize you wherever you pop up.

Also, not only in your own device but in everyone else you share with AND in the background of anyone else's device or monitoring system you happen to be caught by in public or private. You may not have a Meta account for example, but Mets has a profile on you based on references to you by other people.

China takes this cross referencing to the next level, Orwellian style.

Yes facial recognition technology has been in place for years. I think the bigger point the article is making that many seem to be missing is that the airport will use it to a far greater extent than ever before. Now it's not just a matter of Walmart knowing who you are, it's walking into a secure area and boarding a plane without showing documents.

Yep, European and Asian countries have using for a long time, the US has been a slow adopter- but catching up. There are companies who have collected millions of pictures and sell them to folks who want to implement facial recognition.

lol if you don't think that camera is on as you're walking up.

If you tell them before they shut it off. Again, it's probably not preventing anything but you can still tell them ahead of time and opt out of it. I do this regularly, especially in places like NOLA airport.
