I'll make sure to tell my National Guard buddies. I'm sure they didn't feel like they were in the Army while in Iraq or Afghanistan.

In the last 20ish years guardsmen and reservist served far more than one weekend a month and two weeks a year. In many cases multiple times, at other times they were told they got to spend extra time in a desert for the surge. Many never came home from their one weekend a month and the two weeks a year they spent in Afghanistand and Iraq.

I don't knownif Minnesota's govenor was a ****bag or not, but I do know that you have no what was required of all military members.

Further, it'd only be comparable if Vance would have left the corps(as if he even had the choice) when he got his orders to deploy to iraq because that's what walz did.

He was happy with his 2 days a month/2 weeks a year service. But, when the army came to cash in on all his training, he left them and his men high and dry, all while still parroting he was a certified command sergeant major for political gain.

Just to put it in perspective

24 years of NG service is apprx 924 days of service
4 years of USMC service is 1460 days of service

And to be clear- service is service. Some routes demand more than others. Some soldiers do the dirty work, some push paper. Doesn't matter to me which role one takes. Don't care about the branch, federal, national guard etc. If you signed the paper and joined, you deserve some respect.

It's what walz did when the moment came to deploy, what he claimed when he got out and what he said about his soldiers when he was governor

Yes he did serve the country in the national guard not the army - the army is a full time position where the national guard is part time at best in his case with one week end a month and two weeks in the summer unless you are deployed somewhere.

No he didn't go to combat like he says

No he didn't fight with an ar-15 as that is not a military weapon

His ending rank was lower than he claims

He was in the national guard for 25 years - kuddos to him as most people do not serve their country - active days in national guard 3 days per month equals 900 days plus two weeks in summer equals 350 days. Let give another 2 years for deployments maybe. Equaling 730 days for a grand total of 1980 days or 5.4 totals years in straight time.

Most people do not understand this but when he says 25 years of army it makes it sound like 25 years of straight full time army.

I know fine distinction but it still bugs me.

I had a friend from church who was in the Corps and was commissioned in the Army He served in the 82nd but it was all during peacetime. We had an older gentleman who was on 2nd wave at Iwo Jima and I flew combat missions in Vietnam. He felt that his service didn't count as much as Bart's or mine. I told him to never think that because he actually served, unlike the vast majority of the population. I don't care if he was an 11B or clerk-typist, he served. My issues with Walz is the Stolen Valor claim, for political reasons, that he achieved a higher rank that he really did. More egregious though was abandoning his unit on the eve of a deployment to a combat zone.
