Lots of people standing/sitting at gates waiting for info? I mean kind of what you would expect. That was a couple hours ago and I'm en route on delta

I did hear some cancellations being announced. Not sure which airline.

Wait, no one at Microsoft/Crowdstrike tested this "update" before they sent it out?

Sounds like some company has a DEI problem.
Or they did test it and it worked just as designed? Zero reason to trust that company. Zero.

"Zero trust"
I see what ya did there, Dame.

Most critical systems do not run on a Windows server. If it's critical it's a unix variant most likely linux.

Bull crap, plenty of critical IT systems run on Windows Server VMs

Down almost 8%, but it still over $315.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Nope, tons run on Windows. Linux is more efficient, but that requires admins very proficient in Linux, which can be difficult to come by. While Linux is usually more efficient and perform better, sometimes using Windows is less of a headache. Trying to work with an MSP to fix a Linux server is like trying to bail out a boat with a collander.

Its an easy fix, but you have to manually touch the computers is the problem (outside of VMs)
Delete a folder containing the agent, but it is a bear to get to it in safe mode (on some computers)

Kinda pissed right now.. Crowdstrike was supposed to protect us from viruses and yet it became one of the worst "virus" attacks to date. Still I do not want to Russia into anything

Yep. Founded by a Russian, And before it was used in the 2016 election to falsify the Russia hoax, the main claim to fame was a faked IT report about military capabilities during the Maidan Revolution with heavy ties to Ukraine.

You may remember the "Fancy Bear" and "Cozy Bear" Russian IT viruses from that thread.

Bawhaha. I remember when 'youngs' thought computer literacy was defined by being able to play video games. They had no idea how to print something as simple as "Hello World !!" But man they could play those video games.
10 PRINT "HELLO WORLD!!"
20 PRINT "REDRAIDERS SUCK"
30 goto 20

Hey Ty run this one

while(1) {
printf("Tech owned **** in the big12 era \n");
fork();
}

Compile it in C or C++ then be sure to put the executable in your OS startup script.

The good news... it is not a cyberattack and is fixable.

The problem is with Microsoft systems serviced/managed by Crowdstrike. Not a problem of/from Microsoft proper.

the bad news. The fix is going to be manual for a lot of people.

even more bad news... depending on what in a given institution got "hit" there may be some temporary open vulnerabilities that can be exploited. so it could (in theory) get much worse.

If I remember correctly the thread says Comey testified that the FBi wasn't given access to the DNC or DCCC servers but a "Highly respected private company gave then a forensic analysis of them and that's what they based their assessment o!"

I do recall the fancy cozy bear stuff not that I understand what it is but I do remember it was said. I remember the part about the DNC hack was blamed on the Russians and started the entire Russiagate affair?

And they seriously based their assessment off of the assessment of this same CrowdStrike? You cannot make this stuff up

Not true. I work in control systems software and hardware. Many distributed control systems run on a Windows OS. There is nothing more critical than a control system. If it is down, the chemical plant is down, the refinery is down, the electrical generation plant is down, etc.

Yep. Google owned most of Crowdstrike at that time. Google, Crowdstrike, DNC, DCCC, Hillary campaign, Obama Foundation and others were all represented by the same law firm, Perkins, Coie. Very, very incestuous.

I'll take this back then because in my world of pure IT plays (ecommerce, SAAS, PAAS) linux is by far the dominant OS. However, I assume no one is running crowdstrike on a distributed control system and it is mostly gapped from direct connection to the general internet.

Lol, Crowdstrike are the "geniuses" that claimed that the malware - Cozy Bear - that infected the dnc email server was from Russia, despite the fact that the code had been in the wild for years. They helped Hillary push her Russia, Russia, Russia nonsense. Hopefully they get the crap sued out of them.
I knew the name Crowdstrike sounded familiar, just couldn't place it. Thanks for the information.

I remember, which makes the claim this is a fixable problem suspect in my eyes. What else may have been done besides Crowdstrikes failure to properly infect computers.

Well if it was they just put everyone on alert. Nov 5 is going to be cyber hell because the Russians and Chinese will be at there worst on that day. And no you dont delay the election that just makes the voting enviro even worse.

Our enemies will be doing their utmost to put us at each others throats. And cyber will be a big weapon in that effort. Iran also needs watching.
