Even NPR sees the problem. These new Chinese illegal immigrants flowing across the border? They are being trafficked to "legal" Chinese-funded marijuana farms where they work without being paid.

The Chinese economy is far more in the toilet than Xi or Chinese media will admit. People are being laid off, losing their homes and are desperate. Some have found instructions on social media how to make it into the US where they are told they will be well-paid and be better off. It's all a lie. They are being conned. Their captors know that they have them cornered - subject to arrest in the US for illegal immigration but also subject to prosecution in China for leaving. They become slaves, unable to escape.

They already flood the restaurant industry with cheap or free labor, and other service industries.
