"We . . . hold that Plaintiffs' grievances do not fall within the scope of our state's public nuisance statute," the decision reads, "and Plaintiffs' allegations do not support a claim for . . . unjust enrichment."

The court rejected the plaintiffs' argument that the "lingering consequences" of the massacre created a public nuisance: "The continuing blight alleged . . . implicates generational-societal inequities that can only be resolved by policymakersnot the courts."

reparations, in any context, is stupid.

If someone living did something to you while you were alive, fine. Someone in the past did something to your ancestor? Too bad.

Otherwise, all the descendants of Abel have a claim against the descendants of Cain? Dumb.

The massacre began during Memorial Day weekend after 19-year-old Dick Rowland, a black shoeshiner, was accused of assaulting Sarah Page, a white 17-year-old elevator operator in the nearby Drexel Building.[25] He was arrested and rumors that he was to be lynched were spread throughout the city, where a white man named Roy Belton had been lynched the previous year. Upon hearing reports that a mob of hundreds of white men had gathered around the jail where Rowland was being held, a group of 75 black men, some armed, arrived at the jail to protect Rowland. The sheriff persuaded the group to leave the jail, assuring them that he had the situation under control.

The most widely reported and corroborated inciting incident occurred as the group of black men left when an elderly white man approached O. B. Mann, a black man, and demanded that he hand over his pistol. Mann refused, and the old man attempted to disarm him. A gunshot went off, and then, according to the sheriff's reports, "all hell broke loose."[26] The two groups shot at each other until midnight when the group of black men were greatly outnumbered and forced to retreat to Greenwood. At the end of the exchange of gunfire, 12 people were dead, 10 white and 2 black.

Always, always looking for a handout, looking to get paid something for doing nothing. I wish when someone sues for monetary damages and they lose, they should have to pay the one being sued the amount they were asking for and their attorney(s) would be barred from practicing law for five years. This nonsense would dry up fast.

Wow, the race hustlers never brought up this little nugget. One year prior a white man had been lynched which was part of the reason for all the bad blood.

Edit- Belton was actually lynched by a white mob, not black. Blacks were aware of this and reasoned that if a white man could be lynched, a black man certainly could, too.

Yeah, some of what has been posted here is leaving out a significant portion of the events of 1921.

I don't believe in reparations, but I do believe we should be intellectually honest about events to the best of our ability, being humble and gracious to know that some aspects of history can remain fuzzy and potentially never be fully known.

The white mob in this instance did a lot of property damage to the Greenwood neighborhood, which at the time was one of if not the wealthiest black population in the country. You can go back and research the freed black slaves from the Indian tribes of Oklahoma to discover why Greenwood Tulsa was known as "Black Wall Street".

A huge swath of Greenwood was burned to the ground. Not by black people. By white people. Nobody disputes this.

The big dispute is in the numbers of dead. The estimated dead is wide range. The shootings that occurred are only one aspect of the number of dead. There were deaths as a result of the started fires. There were also hundreds of people seriously injured. There were thousands of people left homeless for a period of time as a result of the fires and looting that occurred. Mostly black people.

On the flip side of this story and why reparations don't make sense. Greenwood rebuilt itself from a combination of blacks and whites working together to rebuild the neighborhood, basically back to its former glory.

Why Greenwood went down hill would happen much later after it had been rebuilt and was thriving. The I-44 interstate and more specifically I-244 corridor would have the lasting negative impact on the Greenwood district. One they could not recover from. Those projects in and around Greenwood would be started during the LBJ administration and finished I believe during the Nixon administration.

Yeah that's how it started. The razing of "Black Wall Street," as the area was known, is what the hustlers want reparations for.

Sarah recanted the accusation yet the white folks were already upset that the Greenwood area (black folks) was thriving. After buring down the town, black busines insurance claims were denied, 6 were approved, all white folks.

Its hard to undo a past after 100 years, but the black familes in Greenwood got the short end of the stick.

No one alive today is responsible what happened 100 years ago, 200 years ago. We are not responsible for the actions of our ancestors. I'm sorry for this tragedy. It certainly was a horrible one, but there had been a lot of horrible tragedies in our countries history.

When do we talk about reparations for all the ancestors of union soldiers? Many were killed, many more wounded and many left there homes for multiple years.

Shouldn't the descendants of the slaves that were freed compensate these families for their freedom?

When is Europe going to pay reparations to the US for WWI and WWII?

Makes as much sense as other reparations for far gone history. How far should we take this logic?

The claim that hundreds were murdered in Tulsa is dubious at best. They've been looking for "mass graves" for years with no results. And it's only in recent years that it's been called a massacre instead of a riot. I guess that plays better.
